Star Trek, the new film

Has anyone else seen it, and what do you think of it? I quite enjoyed it as a film, and thought Zachary Quinto played the most believable younger version of the cast, but I think it does have the potential to annoy lots of long term fans of the show. I don't want to give anything away in the bit that appears in the discussion lists, but it does seem that in many ways this film could basically invalidate four of the five series, and all ten other films.

OMG! I just loved it! I think this was the best that the makers of Star Trek films could have done to extend this franchise of films. I was surprised by how well it was cast for one thing. Zachary Quinto looked and acted much like the original Spock, but less campy, andtherefore very believable. Chris Pine did a marvolous job as Kirk, torn inside but still the Hero. I even enjoyed Jada Pinkett-Smith as Uhura, and I don't usualy care for her work. She looked FINE! The effects were increadable, too. Scenes raced along and I was never bored by this movie. I saw it later than I usually see movies!Loved the parachute scene in outer space over a drill! By the way, in case you weren't paying attention and they lost the guy that came with them, (Olson I think his name was!), he was wearing a RED SHIRT! Get it? Anyway, I have gone on enough. If you read this, I am obviously very happy that I saw this movie. Have a great day on mylot!

Jada Pinkett Smith probably looks fine because somehow she walked through a wormhole and emerged as a totally different person... who is 7 years younger! Oh, and her new identity is Zoe Saldana.

I haven't seen this one yet, but I'm dying to do so since I've always admired Zachary Quinto from his work with Heroes. He has this uncanny ability to quietly bring out the characters' inside. As for annoying long term fans, it is expected to do so. This is a reboot, basically a reinvention of the Star Trek franchise. That is why, as I read, it is described as an alternate reality to the original Star Trek series due to the time-traveling done by the original Spock.

Yes, that sums it up pretty much. Although in previous examples of time travel in Star Trek, eg Star Trek IV and, I think, Enterprise, time travel didn't cause an alternate reality, instead altering the existing timeline.

Nimoy's role in the film is fairly substantial really. I was just expecting a cameo, but his part is bigger than that.
