On Saturday May 9, 2009, in London, Ontario's "Springbank Park", there is going to be a "Star Wars Celebration" going on. I have 3 boys who are star wars FREAKS (somewhat to my chagrin, as I prefer Star Trek ). The thought of them being able to attend a little mini convention-type event, is really exciting, for all of us. Whether or not we go is weather pending, as we have to bus it, and it's at the opposite end of the city from where we live. But it's something I really want to do with the kids. And they are PUMPED! I told them that they'd have to wear their costumes though, and they agree. Sadly, I don't have one I could wear. Here's a link to the event here in London, Ontario, Canada: http://www.londonrogues.com/celebration2009.html Have you ever been to a Star Wars convention? Have you ever been to a themed party or event? Do you like Star Wars? Do you like Star Trek?

I've never been to any type of themed event, but every year at work we have Customer Service Appreciation Week and each day is themed. One day we dress up as our favorite person, one day we dress in clothes from a specific decade, one day we dress as a different profession....and on and on. This event sound awesome! I would love to go since I am a Star Wars geek. I still have my Star Wars Yoda cup from Taco Bell from 1996 when they re-released Episode 4. I share your discomfort though. My in laws are die hard Star Trek fans, but they argue about which is a better series after the original...next generation or the other one. I would be burned at the stake for my inability to name the other one. Thank god my husband likes Lord of the Rings. lol

That is too funny! Your kids can be into Harry Potter and Twilight... not sure about the baby yet. LOL. VERY cool on still having the yoda glass!

ARGH!!! You said the "T" word! My oldest suffers from O.E.C.D. (obsessive edward cullen disorder) She has watched the movie at least once a day since I bought it for her and she has read all of the books at least 4 times. My baby loves Diego. My husband and I joke that she is going to come home in love with a Mexican boy who owns a cat. To which he follows up with "something for us both to hate" And my boys are into whatever superhero strikes them as cool this week. But I would love to dress them up as ewoks or jawas and take them to this convention just so I could go :) Take pictures!

Oh right.. how dare I forget the Marvel and DC Comics universes! EEK! Yup.. I'll get pics if we go. It all depends on the weather, because it's an outdoor only thing.

I don't think I've ever been to a themed event like that...does the Girl Scouts 90th Birthday celebration on the National Mall in Washington DC count? That would probably be the closest to a 'themed' event for me, though I was an active Girl Scout leader when we went (that was in 2002). I watched the first three installments of Star Wars--in the THEATER (can you see how old I am?). The first one was even on a SINGLE SCREEN (ahh, those were the days). The event you went to sounds like fun...I'm just so conventional (ok, I'm afraid of what others would think of me!), I don't know that I could go, dressed up or not!

I didn't think it would count, but that was all I could come up with! The last time I ever did anything unconventional, I was fifteen and my best friend and I wore shaving cream on our clothes and walked around town. I guess I don't have much of an opportunity to let my hair down so to speak! I'll have to work on what others perceive of me and quit worrying about it!

Why not? You are only conventional until you do something unconventional.... do what is fun and to heck with convention :D

LOL.. no.. I don't think a Girl Scouts birthday celebration counts. But I think it's very cool that you were involved in that organization! You miss out on a lot of fun in life if you're too busy worrying about what others think of you. Quit it!

Themed events like that are for geeks... sheesh who would go to one of them oh wait, I am going to an SCA event this weekend I guess dressing up in clothing from the middle ages and fighting with wooden swords counts as a themed event eh. I have to make repairs to my swords and armor tonight before head to the Baronry of Rising Waters to fight at the grand tournament of Lady Mary. I like both Star Trek and Wars, both are great examples of good space opera style scifi.

GEEK!!! I hope the rain they're calling for this weekend won't affect your event. I think for me, it means I won't be taking the boys to the Star Wars thing. The event may be going on rain or shine, but I'll only go in shine. lol.

This theme party would definitely make a hit. I have never attended this types of occassions although, holoween dressing up is very common during the holoween season and this is the only time i can dress up weird. He he he.. I hope i can attend or invited in these theme parties! have fun!

I ended up going, as the rain cleared up enough to get to some of the afternoon things. It was a GREAT time!

I'm a huge Star Wars fanboy, and I would certainly love to go to a Star Wars themed event, but unfortunately since I leave in Portugal, there are no such things like Star Wars events in here.

You'd be surprised how many groups and organizations are out there. If you have any comic book shops in your area, you might want to ask some of the workers.. .if anyone knows about Star Wars type events, it'll be the comic store folk!

Every year, down in Disneyworld in Florida, every weekend during May (not 100% positive on this) they have what is called Star Wars weekends at Disney (formerly MGM) Studios. People dress up like the characters, they have guest appearances by people who were in the movies, lots of cast members (employees) dressed up as storm-troopers, Darth Vader, and so on, there is special merchandise available for sale (of course). It's an extremely popular event. I was down there during this time of year a few years ago, and while this was not the sole purpose of me going, it was fun just seeing everyone dress up.

I adore seeing the costumes too. The effort and detail that goes into so many of them is fantastic!
