any one know of a good doggy shampoo that will not dry out their skin and will still help them smell better? i've been noticeing that even when i bath Coconut she still has that doggy smell even though i rinse her well and dry her well etc. i've been adviced by the pet stores but you know how that is. their only agenda is to sell the most expensive and i wouldnt mind that if it really did help. so can anyone help me out? im also going to do a search.

If your dog always smells, it may be a glandular problem. If you have washed her and the smell comes back almost right away, I would think it isnt the shampoo that is the problem! I dont know a whole lot about the health of dogs, but I would take your dog to the vet. The vet might be able to tell if your dog has blocked glands. This can cause a lot of smell. The vet might also be able to manually drain the glands to help with the smell. Im really not sure what the solution is, but I know other people who have had the same problem. Seeing the vet might fix the problem without having to constantly bathe your dog. This way you can both enjoy each other all the time! If you want to try a homemade remedy, try making a paste out of baking soda. Even a little bit runny of a paste. Use this to wash her. Baking soda is really good at absorbing odors!

well im afraid baking soda might dry her coat out to much. i dont bath her a lot for the same reason. maybe once a month or a little longer. its just that my sons gf said this morn that she seems to have the doggy smell a lot. you know another thing she can complain about. anyway, i thought maybe i might have to go see at a vet if she needs the gland cleaned.

This is what I use to bathe my doggies - and they smell so much better and it doesn't dry their skin out
You know, I never use any of those pet shampoos because of that very reason. It doesn't take that doggy smell out and that's what I'm aiming for! Believe it or not, I use dial body wash the spring water kind. I give my fur babies a bath once every two weeks so it doesn't dry their skin out and I lather them up so much that they turn white from the body wash. It really does the trick and boy do they ever smell so good! lol I sort of sing or talk funny to them too and of course they get happy with it because they know I'm being silly with them trying to lighten the mood. I say "Mama! I'm a dog! I'm suppose to smell like a dog! I'm not a human bean! (instead of being I say bean) I'm not suppose to smell like a human bean! I'm a dog! I's suppose to smell like a dog!" lol Look at the picture to see the one I use. Also please rate it! Thanks!

I am not particular on dog shampoo but last month i bought a shampoo for my new puppies. I had bought this shampoo named "My Bestfriend Dog Shampoo with Conditioner" and it was really great. My dog puppies smell good and really last longer as well as it is make their hair soft. Actually its my first time to used a dog shampoo and i was satisfied by the one i choose. It is also very cheap for the price of 60 pesos which would equivalent only to $1.10 more or less on dollar for 250ml. There is also a powder for that after the shampoo. I tell you i never smell them like the smell of dog that i smell from neighbors and friends. You can try ask for it, not sure if its available there though but you can try. Have a nice day!

To add up i forgot. It says on the label KILLS FLEAS, TICKS & LICE, removes unpleasant odor, moisturize skin and stops itching. Well its indeed true as for my experience because its works on my dogs.

Our vet recomended regular baby shampoo, Neutrogena, or one with moisturizer or even use a cream rinse as dogs skin & coat can dry out easily. Unless you need a medicated shampoo or a flea n tick dip there is no reason to pay for an expensive dog shampoo. If your dog will sit still after lathering up, waiting about 5 minutes before rinsing will help fight that doggy smell.

I certainly do. There is an italian line of pet shampoo products on HSN. Their other lotions and so forth are so good. I think if you just go to hsn.com and look at the pet shampoos it should come up. Check for when the guy comes on that sells the product. He is good [not too hard up in the looks department either]. Check it out, you might be happy you did.

If your shampoo is working for the skin conditioning part, why don't you try adding a little baking soda to the shampoo? Baking soda is good for getting rid of odors, and is fairly mild...at least milder than some chemical deodorizers. If fleas are ever an issue, add a couple of drops of DAWN dish soap to the bath water. Works like a charm.

Hi bunnybon7, I know of groomers who use Avon bubble bath and water it down and use that to bath the dogs. I have read to never use a human shampoo on dogs as the ph of their skin is completely different than humans.

I use Mane and Tail on my mini Dachshunds. They smell wonderful after the bath, and stay smelling great. It adds moisture to their skin (plus Mane and Tail makes a conditioner) and their coats shine like they went through a wax job. Plus, I also use Mane and Tail on my hair. It was recommended to me by a stylist and I tried it and love it. So, your hair can shine and smell as great as the dogs. I buy it at Wal Mart and it is sooooo much cheaper than buying shampoos at the pet store.

The last time I bathed my two dogs I used Pantene with conditioner and they came out smelling great! I've also used a mixture of water and baking soda with good success and then used my own hair conditioner on them. Their skin doesn't dry out if you use conditioner. Suave makes very good, cheap shampoo and conditioner that treats their skin kindly.

we dont use dog shampoo for our dogs, we use human shampoos, they will only smell nice for a while especially my labrador but after a day, his not so good smell will be back again. the best ever we've used for our dogs to get rid of the smell for days is a glycerin soap for dogs... i forgot the brand, but when you buy one, read the ingredients. i only give our dogs a once a week bath, and if im using that glycerin soap, they dont smell bad at all for the whole week.
