If it can be treated one second earlier, the heart might start beating again.
If there is one extra helicopter, another life in danger may be saved.
If one more life can be saved, the Japanese medical community may regain trust.
There are more lives in this country that can be saved.
The "Doctor Helicopter" system was legalized in Japan in June 2007. A medical team is dispatched to the patients on a helicopter to provide medical care in the field as soon as possible. One day, four young physicians are assigned to this latest medical system. The doctors experience traumatic medical situations, deal with personal ambitions, witness the fragility of life, and they grow personally and professionally. --Fuji TV

Code Blue, I'd admit, is one of the dramas I've chose to watch just because a member of my favorite Japanese idol group, NEWS, is part of the cast. But then, after watching the first few episodes, I got immediately hooked on the story lines and the characters and, considering that I'm not that much of a fan of hospital/medical-themed dramas, the medical cases. Of course, I'd say that my favorite parts would be related to Aizawa Kousaku (played by Yamashita Tomohisa of NEWS), not just because of my bias, but also because of how much moved I was by his acting - especially the parts relating to his grandma. I cried so much during those parts, it was embarrassing, especially the episode wherein he took his grandma out to buy snacks and she said that she wants to buy all those snacks for her grandson, Kousaku (she still hasn't recognized him at that point) - it was heart breaking. I do have a soft spot for older people (since my parents are quite old as well) and seeing Kousaku break down like that was just...
I really loved this series and am hoping for a sequel but, for now, I guess I'd just have to make do with watching the SP.
Is there anyone else who has seen this drama? Please do share your thoughts.

This is not regarding the actual television drama but the idea involved: it means that a doctor is dispatched on a helicopter in order to attend to one victim, is that correct? Does that mean that they have THAT many doctors available? I know that such arrangements could not be made in the Philippines because not only of the lack of medical facilities but more importantly, lack of doctors. If one doctor is removed from the hospital to attend to one victim, then several victims who were brought to the hospital have one less doctor to attend to them (doctor-patient ratio will be compromised). Of course if there were more than enough doctors then this is not a problem :)
Thanks for the response on my discussion!

Actually, a flight team consists of one resident doctor, one intern/trainee and one nurse. I'm not so sure as to the number of medical practitioners in Japan at the moment but it seems as though they do have enough doctors that they could actually implement such a system. Nurses, on the other hand, are a different matter altogether, as implied by the main flight nurse saying that she's not afraid to get fired by talking back at one of the interns since the demand for nurses is high, anyway. I guess it's sort of the opposite case here in the Philippines wherein doctors are in short supply while there seem to be too many nurses for local hospitals/clinics to actually accommodate.

yo! i haven't seen this drama but i've been planning to. i'm a fan of yamapi. ^^ but i just can't seem to start watching this because i feel like i'm still feeling an aftermath from watching Iryu which is a medical drama too. i've watched Iryu long before but i still feel like i had too much of hospital scenes. ^^;; still, code blue is in my list of J-dramas to watch and Kurosagi too which also stars Yamapi. there's just too many good J-dramas lately and i can't pick what to watch first. and there's a lot of other distractions too.
i'm currently watching an old drama of Hayami Mokomichi which is Regatta and i'm stuck on episode 8 because Mako-kun broke up with Chiko-chan. T.T i'm still trying to convince myself that Mako-kun is destined for Mi-chan. the moment i convinced myself, that's when i'll continue watching it. ^^;; to think there's only two episodes left. LOL
but that's beside the topic. on code blue, its on my list. and i'll never erase it until i have watched it. ^^

OMG, you really have to watch it. This is the first drama since Last Friends that really had me on an emotional roller coaster ride.
I haven't watched Regatta though I think I've been meaning to for a while a few years back.

Hi! i have watched this drama. This is a very heart-warming drama that really made me cry. I hate dramas really because they really make me cry. that's one of the reasons why i haven't watched 1 liter of tears even though i love ryo-chan! going back to the drama, at first i don't have plan to watch it but since my friend who is an avid fan of yamapi asked me to buy a dvd of it so when i went home i checked it if there are no problems whatsoever but then i just found myself finishing the entire drama in a day! i was so hooked to it that i was just watching it the whole day. i love yamapi's acting here, he really deserved the awards he got for this drama.

*lol* I actually have been putting off watching this drama since it was shown (and it has just been sitting in my hard drive since then) since, as mentioned, I'm not really a fan of hospital/medical-themed dramas due to my phobia of needles and scalpels and blood but I'm glad a sudden bout of boredom and overabundance of free time made me watch it.
Anyway, I think this was the first drama that had me crying all out (a lot had me close to tears), so much that my Mom was actually concerned when she saw my crying in front of my laptop. And no, I haven't watched One Liter of Tears either.

Haha, like you I watched this series too because of yamapi though he doesn't have any love partner here I still love it! :D
Though, the series is not enough to explain things like why Yamapi's character became like that when he had such a kind grandma. I hope there would be more stories about Yamapi's character.
