This has been happening to me also. The moment I touch my desktop something goes wrong and the modem restarts. But everything is usually fine when I'm working on the Laptop. I don't know what the problem is too. Any help from fellow mylotters?? This is bad for me because I'm more comfortable typing things on the desktop. But with the frequent cut outs, I can't really work a lot online.

If you are connecting via Ethernet cable to your desktop, try to uninstall the Ethernet drives(Latest) and install it again and after installation, try to configure the IP address exactly which given by the service provider and otherwise just select the option as "Obtain the IP address automatically". Restart the computer after installation and un installation of the driver. If you are using USB port to connect the net,run the disk given by your service provider and follow the procedure and configure the modem and the internet connection.

It might have something to do with the cable box. Ours went out after a few years and we phoned the cable people and they replaced it. So call your internet provider, tell them the problem, and they will walk you through it and see if you can fix it on your end. If that does not work, they will replace your box with a new one.

while using laptop there is no problem yet all right. when using desktop ur having problem means there is no problem with the broad band there is problem with desktop. U didn't tell that which type of connection ur using. If ur using Adsl modem or Dileup if u clear that i will suggest u more clear. According to u r point of if u have adsl modem type u may problem with lancard drivers or Lancard. check it once ok uninstall the lancard drivers again install those drivers. Again u have the same problem replace the lancard with new one ok
