few days ago while i was going to college, i found a cute little kid on the roadside. he came by my car and asked for alms. i saw tears in his eyes. i said i will not give you money. he became a bit sad and started to go. i stopped him and asked why he needed the money.what he said just went through my heart. he said he was hungry. he was only 8. his parents are no more, they died in a recent earthquake. he was good at study and wants to study but the god is not with him. i asked him to come with me. i gave food to him and also some new clothes.
he said he will wash the clothes but i asked him not to do so. the only work he has to do is to play with my little sister who is 6. and go to school with her to study. he lives with us now and is a part of our family. this incident made me proud of myself. i could still remember the shine he has at that time in those twinkling sparkling eyes.
have you ever helped the poor? how?

That's a good thing that u have done ^_^ BUt there are so many of syndicates out there, and thus it's often hard to differentiate those real poor ones from those fakes ones.. U are lucky as well as the kid, for he had found u ^_^
The most i have ever helped a poor, is just donating some money to them and that's it.. IN singapore, it's illegal to beg and not that many ple are willing to be help in that way too.. hehe

Being an Indian, i have some values instilled in me like kind, helping etc. i can never see anyone cry. our country has thousands of homeless children due to earthquakes and other natural calamities. i am of the view if we can help just one of them then our duty towards our nation is fulfilled. you are good at heart too. but do you think these child need money? they need love, our help and support. and don't be angry with me i read all the posts and reply to those i find really good.

You have a good heart. I always give out change whenever I see people on the street asking for money. I dont feel bad at all... I never ask why they need the money, I Think they are poor that's why they ask for our help. If we could help them out then we should. a couple of dollar won't make them rich but it is help to buy food.

you are also a good human being. but will giving change to poor children help them? don't you think we have a greater responsibility? they are not poor they are the one like us. Suppose a tornado strikes now and it ruins everything, then now i am in same condition. they are not born poor, it is not written on their heads that we are poor so we don't deserve anything. Sorry if i exaggerate things i am a little sentimental. I really feel they need our love same way our children do. imagine yourself in their shoes and think over it?

You will be blessed with good karma for helping that kid. I wish there were more like you on this planet. I got to help the less fortunate once when I was involved in a religious organization, we did some outreach program where we entertained the poor and gave them food and school supplies. Recently, me and my wife were on our way to have breakfast at Mcdonald's when we saw a little girl lying on the street. With old and dirty clothes, she was curling her body to warm herself from the cold pavement and the cold air. We bought her some food and fruits. We left it beside her and walked towards home with warmth in our hearts.

Thats very kind of you deepak. We see barely people like you nowadays. If all people were like you, there would have been a reduction in poor people population. Personally, i help poor people by giving money to charitable organizations and often to beggars on the streets.

Well, for all i know, it's been forbid by the Mayor Himself to Banned the giving of money to poor and dirty people. So, I thought of another way to help people by giving my money and coins to a charity and drop it in the piggy bank of red cross when ever i get in the train..

One of my long term goal in life is to be able to help a family hopefully many family in need. Not by giving them food every now and then but giving jobs to them. As they say "Give them fish and they will live for a day, teach them how to fish and they will live forever." This for me is the best way to help less fortunate brothers and sisters. I have done my part of helping many times but I want more in the coming years. I want to make a difference not for my own personal satisfaction but to be a sample to those who I know could help them as well.

I used to give beggers money everyday I met them. But now, there seems to be more and more beggers and some of them are quite healthy and young. So I only give money to the elders and children.
Your behavior is very kind and the boy is so lucky to meet you. I helped a boy to afford his tuition several years ago and I did feel very proud and happy. There are so many people out there who really need our help. We should try to help them as long as we have the ability. But in the meantime, it is also necessory to discern the cheaters.

I travel a good deal and there is a group of us who have a tradition anytime we're in a city for longer than a day or two...we will find a homeless person who truly wants to change their situation (not always something to just assume--many homeless people are actually that way by choice and prefer it), will take them and get them food, a low-cost hotel room for a night or two, two sets of clothes--one at least somewhat professional, and set them up with a couple job applications or with a local employment office. The ultimate goal is to try to at the least get them a job interview, food for a couple days, and a way to look presentable to try to get a job. From there, it's up to them.
I'd like to say that all of them take the opportunity and run with it and make something of themselves, but many of them end up right back on the streets. However, the few that actually do better themselves, get jobs, and are able to turn their lives around make it worth it. Given it only takes about $20 each from those of us who do it, it really isnt much. We look at it that when traveling, the difference is about the same as eating fast food for a meal or two instead of going to a sit down restaurant.

Yes its the good way that helped the poor boy . I hate many people who just through coins on them and think they really helped the poor . But its not true , in many countries it has become a profession of few bad guys to earn money by forcing poor children to beg .
The best way could only be to take them to any restaurant and give them something to eat in front of you . Otherwise what money you giving them are actually taken away by those bad guys . Other wise its wise to bring them home or provide them some job to make them stand on their own feet.
I am glad Deepak , you helped that boy . It requires a big courage to do this :)

Since I'm just a student & live off pocket money myself, there's not much I have been able to do.
But I still make sure I help out at least 2 poor beggars, usually elderly people while commuting to & fro from the collage.
I'm not too soft with others though.
If you're Indian & ever been to Mumbai, you'll notice the other side as well.
Often there are healthy people high on booze asking for money or children begging in local trains when their parents are dozing in the next compartment.
In such cases, I just tell them to shove off !!

Thats a very sweet story and it shows how kind your heart is :) I help the poor out a lot, whenever a homeless person asks me for change if i have a dollar bill or more to spare i will give it to them,,,my family and i were homeless for a while when i was little so I know how hard it is and how hurtful it is when people judge you when you are homeless...so from my experiences i appreciate what I have now but i will never ever judge or look down upon a poor person because I have been there and so I know what they feel.

What you did is highly commendable. The Lord said "whatsoever you do to the least of your brothers you do unto me." Surely the Lord will reward you for showing an act of kindness to the poor child. We have also a ministry for the poor here in our community. We are reaching out for about ten poor families here in our community. We are giving out grocery goods to each of these ten poor families once a month. Then we minister the Word of God to them once a week. Truly helping the poor gives a great joy in my heart. For me it is such a privelege to help the poor. The Lord always remind us to remember the poor. WE show our love to the Lord by helping the poor. Surely the Lord is pleased whenever we help the poor. God bless you for your kindness.

I haven't helped someone to the extent of taking him/her in my home. That is something I have never thought of doing. I do try to help others when I can, mainly with some money. I also helped my friends in a fund raising activity for a home for the poor by doing car washes.

yes I did, and it was one the highlights of my life, I once joined a paralegal organization which aimed to help those imprisoned... I got two prisoners out of jailalthough I didn't not see them after their release, but I don't need, I'm just happy that they got out , hopefully never to return
