Is the wiki philosophy the greatest revolution on Web 2.0?

The philosophy that stays underneath wikipedia and many other less famous wiki project is to provide the widest knowledge possible for everyone counting on the largest participations of those who have some specific knowledge. Is this priciple the greatest that came out of web 2.0 era? What kind of future does it have in future web?
