As I remember, my allowance when I was in Grade School...1 peso, sometimes nothing. When I was in High School, it's still have 1 peso but sometimes I went to school with no money or any food/snacks. And when I was in college since the university is very far from our house. I only have my fare allowance and I bring my own lunch. rice and fried fish.

In grade school, I had no allowance since I was already provided with a lunchbox containing my snacks and meals and also a car pool for my transportation. In high school I was glad that I was already allowed to ask for a twenty peso allowance everyday but since I was not used to ask for an allowance, there days when I forgot to ask for it and had no allowance for the day but still provided with snacks and meal and a car pool. Finally, in college there were unexpected requirements which needed to be provided immediately so my allowance was increased into fifty pesos provided with rice for lunch but my viand will be bought form an eatery. It was in college that I realized the disadvantage of not being used to ask for an allowance because every time I forgot to ask for my fifty peso allowance, I am forced to borrow money from my close friends to have myself a photocopy of our lessons for the day since our professors usually leave their notes for the day at the photocopier personnel. When I transferred in a university, I was so happy when I was allowed to ask for an eighty peso allowance and after a year in the university my allowance increased into a hundred pesos. Until now, my allowance as a college student is still one hundred pesos and I'm glads that I am able to save everyday an amount of twenty pesos from my daily allowance because I avoid spending my allowance in unnecessary things since I am aware that my parents are working hard to provide our needs. I know that money is not easily earned in the midst of this global financial crisis so therefore, as a student, I should learn to spend my allowance wisely.

Hello tracy! Thanks for responding this discussion. You're a nice daughter because you're able to understand your parents and did something good in return. Saving money from your allowance is a big help to them. Keep it up!

When I was a kid I would get $1 from everyone of my elders on Sunday. This went on untill I was about 10. After that I would have to do chores around the house to earn money if I wanted to go to the movies with my friends or wanted to buy a comic book or something. As soon as I was able to work (14) I worked in a kitchen as a dish washer. I have been working ever since and would have to say it feels good to be earning some money, especialy right now.

Wow, you must be from the 70's and 80's when you had that kind of allowance. Meaning the economy back then was a lot better than this time. having a thousand pesos then was a very big deal. unfortunately, I was never that lucky because i only had 100 Pesos or at least half of that. but the expenses most especially food where high already then.

I've never had an allowance...hehe. I never really needed one, because if i wanted something I would just ask my parents and I'd get it. I guess that was mostly because I rarely asked for anything, never really needed stuff. I've never been a big spender so I guess they thought it was okay to buy for me if I asked for anything hehe.

My Mother and Father never believed on allowances, we are part of the family therefor we are expected to help out around the house. If there was ever anything we wanted we had to hope that our parents would buy it for us, if not then we dealt without it. We were always given what we needed, rarely what we wanted.
