Recession Major?

With the recession making attaining jobs so much harder do you think it that it is better for a college student to look for a major that pays more and is in need for professionals then to follow what they enjoy the most even though job placement may be harder in such things as design careers.

My answer is simply to do both. Get a dayjob, go to college, and work on your hobbies. If you become good enough, then you can leave your day job for your dream job! If you don't, at least you're getting an education and can leave your day job for something better.
