What captures a man's heart first...... beauty or character?

My co-worker introduced me to a song yesterday (its an old song I guess but I was hearing it for the first time). The girl was saying how much she could not believe the guy had left her for an ugly girl etc... etc...
The song made me laugh and we began to say how much this girl was a sore loser. The other girl might be ugly but she had enough in her to win this guy from her who was prettier.
Now that makes me think... Are guys really attracted to beauty more than character? Beauty may be the initial attention grabber but in the end what will win a man's heart...Beauty or character?

Hi tjades, for me beauty is just skin deep. What counts is the character. Beauty fades the character doesn't. It's how she makes you feel love and accepted, and warmth. The character that makes you learn what is life.The kindness that glows and touch the heart. Have a nice day to you!

I think it depends on the man. If he is more concerned with the way he looks to others, then he would probably go for the beautiful woman. But, if you have a man who is sincerely looking for a soulmate, then character would win him over most definitely. As you said, though, it's natural for people to be attracted to someone's looks first. You need time to get to know a person's true inner qualities...their true character. Too bad not everyone takes the time to look further into someone than their outer shell.

That is all true Jewl. I believe that many times we (both men and women) get ourselves in a relationship bind because we make poor choices for a partner all based on the wrong reasons.
That may be the leading reason for all the divorces and broken relationships which occur so regularly.

Beauty is truly only skin deep. Beauty attracts, there is no doubt, but once your past that the only thing left is character. I think that for any of us to become truly attracted, to the point we want to get serious about her, there must be something about her character that attracts us. This is so important.
If a man should happen upon a beautiful women that happens to have the character that is compatible with him then he may have the best of both worlds. But beauty is truly not the most important thing. Not for a long term relationship.
