Before moving to a new area my husband and I did some work with volunteer programs for kids at Christmas. It was a project sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and it was all volunteers who performed the serivce. We helped out for two years, I think we got more out of it than we gave. So far I have not found anything like it in this new area. What are some ways you help others in your community?

I usually spend my extra time at our local nursing home. I also work there part-time, but tend to spend most of my days off there as well. When I am volunteering there, I am able to take residents for a walk around the community, visit with each of them longer, or simply help around the facility. It is very fulfilling, as you said. Sometimes I feel like I am getting more out of it than the residents are. Our older friends still have a lot to offer our communities...we need to take advantage of their wisdom and grace.

That is really great - you must enjoy that a lot. It takes a certain type of person to be able to help out those in the nursing homes. It takes courage because you probably see them not always at their best. I am not sure if we have a nursing home in my area, but I should look into that. Maybe just vol. a few hours a week would help out. Thanks for the idea!

volunteering is very helpful in a community. You can get a lot of satisfaction by doing something good. I used to go to a children's home for a long time but I stopped because things came along, I had exams and I started to work. But now that I have settled down and I have some time available since I have a part time job, i would like to restart my voluntery work.

Giving your time at a childrens home is a great way to give back to the community. Kids suffer so much and they are often left out of the volunteer stuff. I'm sure they appreciate what you have done and what you will do again. ust a few hours out of your day can bring a jot of joy to those kids. Keep up the good work!

The satisfaction you get from this thing is simply amazing. After a while you notice that the children starts to get used to you and they start to love you. They got so close to me and even the sisters noticed that. I was so sorry when I stopped attending the home but im looking forward to start again. Thanks very much!
