Have you ever been sued?

I didn't finish my school that I quit paying. It was a private school for massage therapy and the school set up the financing, but it was no government or student loan type of deal. That being said, I was responsible to pay it all although I didn't complete the whole 500 hour course.
I stopped paying it because I assumed they would just send me to collections and I would get to pay about 60-80% of the remainder of the bill rather than the full remaining balance.
Turns out I was very wrong. I received a letter from a lawyer telling me they were going to take me to court. Of course, I contacted the lawyer and I am sure they'd rather just get the money than have to go to court. I tried negotiating a little but all I could manage to get was this arrangement:
$677.30 within 30 days
$338.65 within the next 30 days
and the final $338.65 within the following 30 days
I'd rather scurry for money this month than to go to court a few months down the road and have to pay hundreds more in court costs, attorney fees, etc. If I default on this agreement I will be taken to court regardless. I don't really know how I will come up with all that extra money, but I have a second job and am trying to earn and save money rather than spending anything at all in the meantime.
I am scared but will be happy when this is all over in three months! Have you ever been sued, or come close?

I have come close to being sued. I had to come up with a few thousand dollars in order to avoid going to court. It was a terrible experience so i know exactly how you feel. After the initial payment, I had to make 12 monthly equal payments and if i defaulted once on those monthly payments, I would be in big trouble. I had to sign a contract to ensure I was going to make these payments so they had me really good. Anyway, I did avoid the whole court issue so it all turned out well and i'm done with the payments. But I know exactly how you feel. Best of luck and I hope it's all over really soon for you. Take this as a lesson...I learned mine.

I've had people threaten me, but it's never amounted to much. Mostly because of my ex. Now he's been sued and had judgements entered against him that I've had to pay off as his wife/ex-wife. Finally I wised up and realized that most of the letters and threats of legal action I got were just plain intimidation and as long as I didn't let them rattle me, I could make arrangements with the actual person owed and reduce the impact on my pocketbook. Then I learned to just turn it all back on the ex where it belonged! LOL
Good luck and I hope you get this sorted without too much hardship.

I'm really sorry about all of this. I hope this problem gets resolved sooner than later. I'm sure it's not a pleasant state for you. Of course, I don't really understand what you're going through, as I've never been sued, and I don't wish to be. However, I do feel sorry about this whole thing.

Hello my friend Bethany1202 Ji,
As a house wife, I never faced such problems through-out my life. My hubby too believes
to clear all bills due, before he goes to sleep. He may not take food, but he never
keeps anything pending. So I personally think, on eshould not presume and reamin debt free
May God bless you and have a great time.
