Do you remember old days when lovers use to talk via letters and used to wait for long days till the reply use to come back. The excitement of that one single letter used to be that big that every problems in life seemed to be small, isn't ti?
I can still remember in my teen age I used to exchange letters to one of my niece living in differnt town. My letter use to take 7 days to reach her place and vice versa. So, we had to wait for 14 days before getting a response from other side.
Now a days, people can get the reply instantly. Even at mylot also, people can chat isn't it? Here is an advantage of getting instant replies but the pleasure part isn't there. The excitement we used to have in past days, are not there.
Do you miss those days when you used to wait for long days bofore getting a reply from your loved ones and the day you get a letter, used to make your day?
I miss those days a lot!

Hi, sanuanu!
Many years ago, my mother found an envelope full of envelopes and discovered love letters her parents had written each other when they were starting to fall in love. They were so beautiful, even in the old-fashioned, overly polite way they were written. How beautiful!
Now my husband and I write each other occasional letters just because we want to express ourselves that way, and we both have almost half a century of letters in boxes! It's great to go back through them now and then. I still get a major kick out of getting a letter from him today!

I still have letter which I sent my niece 10-12 years ago. Whenever I read them, I go back into those times and feeling is very soothing. That is a beauty of letters for two reasons, one they are handwritten and the other is that they get old day by day! Older they are, more valueable they would be.
Hmm, I have never read those love letters but once my elder cousin brother shown me his wife's letter. It was one hell of a letter. Then on I have a dream of writing a letter to my wife, but for that I have to wait till I get married.

Sanu-
I don't miss them because I do both. I love writing snail mails to friends and family, and I love to receive them. My post has been very lonely as of late, but my children do not write often in snail mail because of their schedule. My husband and I still leave each other notes though around the house. I've a nice little box they go in after as well, so we have a great many handwritten letters to go back and re-read.
I do use emails as well, because it's a nice way to stay in contact. I write emails to a dear friend of mine because it saves our phone bill, and well we we're both impatient to speak to each other lol. Her and I used to spend time together when we both lived in same state, and it's been great to keep in touch. I think there is romance still even if technology has advanced. We can do both, and both are very much appreciated.

I don't see me doing both of them. Somehow because in my age, I can only find people who are good in modern day communication and today's generation is a bit impatient(I am no exception).
Well, it is really good that you can enjoy both of them! I hope you will have a great life ahead!

Me too sanuanu! I remember when I was 16; (yes I can recall that far back!) I travelled back to Italy for a three month holiday and I had to leave my childhood sweetheart behind. We spoke on the phone because we missed each other a lot but the calls were expensive and neither of us could afford too many, so letters were our main way of communicating. I remember the excitement when one of the letters arrived and I would go and sit by myself somewhere private and relish every word! You are quite right the pleasure part is gone nowadays with the invention of instant replies such as text, email, MSN etc.

well we are into the modern era now so what can i say. certain old world charm has been lost forever. even i used to write letters before and it was a lot of fun waiting for the reply to the letter. every time the postman would come to the building i would be waiting if there is a letter for us as well. but time s change and as we move forward we lose out on some old things even if they are good or bad and now as they say the world has become smaller due to the fast commuincation possible with anyone around the world the magic of letters has almost gone away.

Sometime, I think that we are now even challanging God. Now we have power to see each and every part of our Earth via Satelite. One place can be destroyed within a matter or second. Modern days has given great powers to people living on Earth.
Communication isn't an exception, indeed, it is good that we get replies soon and probably that is the case why people are getting divorced more as the expectation has been increased too from SO !

our life is a cycle. from the time that all things are so slow and life is a bit staggard and somewhat lacking of technological transitions. but everything and evrybody always changes. because there is no constant in this world except change. and i hope those changes could help us pursue our dreams of a new modern era.
even i misses all those times. where in technolgy is not that over whelming and life is alot more calm. i even like to write snail mails to my friends. but im also hoping they would response to it too. im ecstatic of knowing that i'll be receiving somethings that are worth waiting for. but you're right. because of technological changes. everything is all so easy and somewhat eagerness are all gone. miss it though, really!

I used to write so many letters. Your're right, the excitement factor is missing with all this new technology. I am grateful for the fact that I can communicate on line with my cousins in other places and even my friends nearby so easily because I just don't have the time to write letters as I used to. The hours that I work often make keeping in touch with close friends a challenge. Still, letters were fun. I do still exchange letters with my ex mom in law. She lives out of town and does not have a computer.

Hi sanuana, this is something I have long forgotton about but looking and remembering back at that yes the excitment of hearing from a loved one and even writing to them not sure as to what they would say is what I miss, todays communication eg in texting sometimes can be misunderstood what you say to someone, and can be taken in a way that you don't mean...whereas in a letter you can explain yourself more and in a more meaningful way...littleowl

I miss those days as well. I used to have a penpal when I was a kid and I used to love to get their letters. My grandmother also moved to the other side of the United States when I was 7 and would write me often. It used to make my day to get a letter in the mail from her. She's send me gifts too..lol...nice memories sanuanu..thanks.

Hello sanuanu!!!
Yes, there was a time writing letter. I have a uncle in Germany, my uncle's friend. He used to come to Nepal once a year. At that time I was only about 12-13. That time, I wrote some letter to him. Not only me, there was my brothers and sisters who too wrote the letter. We were just interested about it. Not really a big and important thing was there to write, but still we wrote. All the letters were sent at once to the Germany. May be he used to get too messed up with the letters from us. I hope he enjoyed them too hehe....
Well we also used to get letters from him. That took I think more than a month to get a reply. I forgot actually.
But gone are those days about writing letters. Now is the time of emails and chatting. Even the mailing has decreased due to chatting. Mostly I do chatting than mails.
I agree with what you said. There is no real excitement about getting emails in comparison to letters. Getting mails or chatting seems just too normal now. But I don't miss those days as the we have got the more convenient things.
Indian songs are famous here in Nepal. I hope you know the song, "Chithhi aae hey aae hey chitthi aae hey" by Pankay Udas from the movie Naam. Now the song goes liket this, "Email aae hein aae hein email aae hein"
Nice post...Happy mylotting...

one months is big time but still, it was nice to recieve those and read it as fast as we could. I can still remember days when I used to get letters and I couldn't wait to read it!
With emails also we get happiness but taht is different than snail mails. With snail mails, we can actually feel the emotions by which people wrote it!

hehe...I hope you liked the new composition. If you are a good singer, you can remix out the song and sing. You will be famous. Nowadays, there is the great market of remix songs, isn't it....
Sorry!!! I didn't understand the meaning of snail mails? What is it?

yes dear.i am one of those few who still had the opportunity to feel that excitement of getting letters and eagerly waiting for them........
when my realationship started 6 years back.my love used to write to me as that was the only way we could communicate with each other.......
whenever i used to receive a letter it used to be one of those golden days for me....... we still stay away from each other but now both of us have our mobile phones and we cant wait even for minutes before the other replies.......

If you look at it, it might sound that we are really happy with the modern day communication but really the happiness which used to lie in the past times, when people used to await for the resposnes from others through letters used to be of great significance as it used to bring back people the memories that they spent together and the feeling of unity still being far away. All of now, when we consider that people can talk instantly and don't need to wait too long for replies but in this fast paced world, people are so busy that using the technology of fast communication also, they don't find enough time to talk with each other for sometime. So, those days are hardly missed!!

yep i sure did enjoyed it, and enjoyed it a lot...
you know you can still do this snail mail if you really wanted to, try me... lol... send me a letter through snail mail and i would still appreciate...
many people still appreciate snail mails. last year my friends sent me cards for Christmas, although it arrived after the New Year! , i was still thankful and was really excited with it...
so go on, get that pen and perfume smelling stationary and write... lol, it's more romantic anyway, receiving letters that we can read over and over again, and have it kept under the pillow... hahaha... yep i've done that too. one favorite letter was in my wallet for years...

i really do think that today's communication rocks, being able to talk with anyone around the globe, you can even talk to people half way round the world people you've never met and will probable never meet in your entire life.
talk about our job, were call center agents were talking to thousands of people every month without knowing where they are or them knowing where we are.
but in total best communication (voice) ever would be for VOIPs, talk about clarity are volume, VOIP is number one

OK I miss those days but I am more thankful for instant communication. The killing used to kill me really and of course the constant worry if the letter has reached at all, if it has maybe the person was not at home, why isnt the reply coming, s/he will not keep contact with me anymore, so no reply has come and so on! Am I glad that we can now just SMS 'I dont want to talk to you any more'

I welcome this new technology where we seems to go instant in everything and that speed up every heart beat. Well,it is good for those younger generations now as they need no longer wait for mails and is a great time saver as there are option for internet dating and chatting. I welcome the new age inventions and had enough of those long wait for mails.

Hi sanadoodoo...I do miss those days very much. Now everything is too simple that sometimes people take for granted people that live far away because they can talk when they want. I think it was much better in the older days when one had to wait. Now people expect everything done right away, even some things that cant. I would like to live for a while in the late 1800s, on a farm, with no electricity or anything. If we all did, we would sure appreciate what we have now much more instead of abusing it. I think a physical letter that is hand written, requires more effort and is much more personal than an email I say we should all start writing letters again!

Hi, Sanyorita
Yes, i would also like to live back in 1800 without electricity or TV or PC. The only drawback of that day is that we can't use mylot to talk to each other, isn't it but those days were good as people don't use to get their eyes destroyed by sitting in front of TV monitors and all!
My eyes aren't that good and I do't want to look at my TV sets as it will decay it !

I often take this for granted! I think I have written a letter twice in my life, and one of those was to Santa Clause! Amazing isn't it, how in the last ten years of our lives, technology has advanced so quickly that we can now communicate with each other instantaneously, order food online, buy plane tickets, and go shopping all from the comfort of our own homes. I grew up with the internet though, so I'm not even aware of the alternative. Things are going to keep on changing, might as well stay up to date on the latest gadgets, because one of them is bound to become the new must have.
