Isn't this illegal? Spying on family members.

I was replying to a question about cheating on here and saw a link to an ad that made me curious. http://www.securetactics.com/SpySoftware?gclid=CPSF_rzzv4gCFSNxVAod_kO6Lg This link is to a website for a spy software and they are urging you to spy on your family members. It records passwords, conversations and everything you want to see without the user knowing of it. I know at least in Iceland this would be regarded as invasion of privacy and very illegal. Do you know the law in your country? Would this be legal there? I understand the need for parents to know what their children are using the computers for but they should know that they are being monitored!

I suspect that this may be legal in the United Kingdom because you are monitoring your own computer in your own home and it is your personal family only who is likely to be spied upon. It would certainly not be legal outside the home. Nevertheless, it is without doubt an invasion of privacy and I would never consider subjecting my own family to such severe scrutiny.

It would not be legal for me to set up this software on any computer that others have access to in Iceland unless I inform them. I am not even allowed to get my phone calls itemized on my phone bill without a written permission of everyone over the age of 16 in the household. We have a very active and strong government appointed organization in Iceland that protects your privacy and rights. Sometimes they go a little too far in my opinion but they have made sure that Iceland isn't full of "Big brothers" watching over our shoulder all the time.

Good point. I would get seriously mad if I foud out someone was spying on me on my own computer. If you don't trust someone, talk to them. If you want to put up spyware to monitor what your children are doing on the computer, let everyone who uses that computer know about it. You could even put a lable on the computer with a little warning that all activity is monitored. I would like to know if I was using someone elses computer if it was monitored.

Yes, our "personality babysitter" can be too much sometimes. I think it's very fair though that you should have to inform other family members if you put up something like that on the computer. Imagine how angry they would get if they found out you were spying on them, even when they have nothing to hide!

It would definitely be illegal in Iceland but I don't know about the rest of the world. Legal or not, it's highly immoral (is that a word)? I never let anyone get near my computers and have them all password protected so my husband or anyone else could never install a program like this on my computer. The computer my son has access to has a program that allows us to monitor what he does on it but he knows about it and so do all his friends who use the computer when they are visiting him.

I would consider this an invasion of privacy but also a matter of trust in the home or between family members.
