How would you feel if you had to remove a second head from your baby?

this isnt a joke but a hypothetical question i had after watching a documentary on this baby named manar that was born with two heads. the second head was attached to the top/side of hers and it had part of a body and it could smile and cry (no lungs but make the motions) etc and everything and because it was a "parasite" (as in it was stealing blood from manar) it would eventually kill manar so they had to remove it.. here is a link on it.. one of the many if you do a search.. http://baxterking.com/?p=303 now even though i know that they had to remove the one twin/parasite just seeing it have a face and animations and everything just made me feel torn over it.. obviously if it wasnt removed they both would die but removing it also meant certain death of the parasitic twin.. my question is.. would you view the parasitic twin as an actual person? or just a growth? would you feel that separating them is causing the death of the one twin even though its not really alive (As in normally with heart and lungs etc) anyways? if you have religious views would it make you choose different than you would otherwise? i would seperate but feel saddened over it.. sadly manar lived through the surgery but died later on from an infection (i dont think it was connected to the surgery though)

Things like this are so Sad. It probably made the parents wonder whether they did the Best thing for sure. I know it would be hard to know which is the Best thing to do for sure, and then to loose your child anyways. I just hope in time there is some solice and more study for the next time something happens like this as well.

that was really terrible to hear this kind of news. but i think that child dying early better for them both than suffer to live their whole life abnormally and suffer throughout their whole lives. if i would be the child i would rather be operated on, if i survive good and if i die better . if only be spared from more suffering in life.

That's shocking! What a poor girl. I feel sorry for her and for her parents. I can't even imagine the feeling of her parents when they know what baby girl they have. The special treatment that a girl in her situtaion should get is amazing. If I were her doctor I would anything in my power to save her. May God bless her soul!

what was awful was they took the baby from the mother and didnt let her see the baby girl and so she went for awhile not knowing what the problem was because they had no idea there was a problem while she was pregnant and no one was telling her anything after she had her!!

I think that the baby should have been aborted. The parents knew that the twins would be conjoined and its just disgusting that the parents went ahead and allowed the twins to even be born. They had a terrible few weeks whilst they were on earth. They were put through test after test, and operations even though they were so tiny, and didn't even have the chance to experience the love of their family during that short time. The only thing the parents were after if you ask me is some spare cash from the magazines they sold their story to.

i would ordinarily agree but the documentary "claims" they didnt know they were even having twins until the baby got stuck and they had to do an emergency c-section and then they didnt tell the mom for awhile (like a month or something) after the birth that there was even a problem

I would remove if not for anything else giving the "healthier"twin a better chase of a somewhat normal life both medical and social. So i would try to put my self out of it as best i can. And basicly to feel as little as possible... The only objection I have with it in this case the two twins seem to have two brains and they seem to operate indempently...There might be some fishy stuff going on here as these medical sensations. what they show might be edited / altered to be more sesasionaling it. I have not seen the whole show but from the snippet on the site it implys to me that it´s "team of doctors" is the team of sugical personal at that presise hospital. No mention of a surgical specialist in this area, and this is not a money issue becouse the worlds sugical specialist in this area (any type "first of it´s kind"operation) would do it for free if noting elese for his/hers "status" in the medicalfield of in this case separating twins...

If removing a part of the body was the only way to save a baby, then I would have no choice but to do it.

What a very sad choice that anyone had to make........turns out it was sad all the way around. I really don't know how I would have dealt with the situation....

I would consider it a person because at one point it was a person but unfortunately something went wrong in development. I would separate her from her Parasatic twin simply because the parasatic twin has no chance of survival anyway. Its better to give the healthier baby a chance. However, I would mourn the loss of what would have been my child.

Hello I will have to concider it as such, just a growth and not a actual twin. This situation is simular to a ingrone toe nail in my opinion, my feelings would have been different if these were twins and they were just joined together at the heads. To save this girls life I will say, go on with the surgury! Happy My Lotting!

if the second head didnt show emotions and stuff i would be able to easily think of it as that but the dang thing can smile and everything.. thats what makes it hard to think about.. but yeah in all reality you are right

This is such a difficult decision to make. I would have to sacrifice the parasite's life though because Manar should not have to suffer and it would be better to have one child than none at all. What a rare case, and I hope it never happens to anybody because you always wonder 'what if?'.

i know! i wonder if manar had lived if she would have felt weird towards knowing it happened..
