I wish I could celebrate this mothers' Day with my mom. I am working in a city 1500 kilometres away from my native place, where my mother lies in a hospital, wrapped with wires and oxygen mask to survive for few more breaths. She has been unwell for last 24 years, but now she is critical and my only hope is just to see her again when I am back there after few days.
Time has always not been same. There were merry days when I used to dance around her, singing and hugging her, demanding every new thing I saw, and ordering for new dishes every day. My mother was a solution to all my querries, all my problems and all my desires, whether it involved asking money from Papa for some new toys, or longing for a sweater of latest design. Maa could knit any thing within a day.
We are five siblings and all of us were given everything our parents could afford. Once my mother said, for parents, its easy to take care of all their children, but the same children, when grow up, can not mangae taking care of their parents. I had protested her statment then and said, "maa, I will take care of you forever."
But, seeing her struggle throughout her life with diabetes, then renal failure and now, completely bed ridden, I find myself helpless. I am doing nothing except sending few pennies every month to home, that is hardly meeting expenses of er treatment.
On this mother's day I can just say Mom, You were right. You saved me from al odds of life, but I am sorry to see myself unable to save you from all these sufferings. Please forgive your helpless daughter.
