If you are a true Christian be careful setting goals. God needs total freedom to work with us. If we plan a lot to do if we are not real careful we are planning God right out of our life. God knows a lot more about where we need to go and how we need to get there than we do. If you set a goal leave plenty of room for God to change the plan. If you are really listening to God and truly want His help in your life then just sort of learn to go with the flow.
Far too much of our lives is already planned and this can hurt our personal relationship with God very badly. At 7 AM you must be on the job and at 3 PM you must get off work and drive home. Then at 5 you must sit down with the family and eat and then at 6 you plan to watch the local news then at a certain time you must go to bed and rest up to do the same thing tomorrow. This may not be what you do but you get the idea.
Set your goals if you must but be sure to leave some wiggle room so God can change your plans if He needs to. Don't feel bad about not reaching a goal. The odds are real good if we do reach the goals we set it may prove to be something we didn't need in the first place.

Those were some very nice words.......i do believe that sometimes we should give room for gods plan of work.....and should not be upset if certain things don't work......i also believe that as a christian i need to be obedient and stand upto my words......thanks a lot for these words of wisdom.....

Well those words come from 70 years of living. Much too often I found myself trying to "help God" and all I was doing was getting in His way where it just made things harder for Him. I finally figured out if I just tried to keep out of His business he could take care of me a lot easier. Don't get me wrong we must put out a certain amount of effort but it works best when it is done with God's instructions. God can see a lot farther down the road than we can and if we will let Him He can help us to avoid later problems.
I have spent the first half my life making mistakes and the second half trying to correct them. There is no doubt in my mind now that if I had been listening to God all a long things would have went a lot better for me and the others around me. I still make plans but I always add these few words, "If it's God's will, I will".

I have the same problem with achieving goals. I think my problem is a lack od discipline. I have read many books on this and many give good advice, but the main thing is discipline.
One of the tips I learned was to set smaller goals and reward yourself for achieving it. If the task ahead is too big it takes a lot of eccouragement to start because the end looks too far. With smaller goals it might be easier. They say you must break the task or goal up into smaller parts and then it will be easier to do it, and achieve it.
I hope you can use this.
Blessings

I agree with you Beertjie,
I am really overwhelmed by your responses on each of my discussion.....it is really encouraging to hear from you......
And yes I should definitely incorporate discipline into my ways of working.......if i get that thing in.....i feel everything will then be back to normal......infact after reading so many amazing responses I have indeed learned the art of planning and organizing my day ahead.......

I think one thing you have to do is get your mind completely set to do it. Unless something comes up that you are wanted or needed somewhere other then where you need to achieve your goal, then take away all distractions and focus on what it is. If it's mylot, or cleaning, or writing a book, etc, just try to be as quiet as possible, with no music on unless it helps you, but if it distracts you more turn it off, same for the t.v.
I hope this helps.

Ok i used to have the same problem used to get up set a goal go for a wash then do something else by the end of the day i wouldnt have acheived my goal.
Now what i do is when i get up before i have a shower i try and do a goal. then after lunch i make a promise to myself that i will do somethin i get my fiancee to nag me to do it so i do it. Then i also reward myself after like by watchin a movie or something. So maybe set yourself something and use a way where after you have done something you will reward yourself?
or get someone to remind you to do somethin?
hope this helps.

Thats a good idea......make someone to remind you of what things you are supposed to do.......and specially those people whom you trust and have lots of respect for.....and treating ourselves is definitely good......but i hope i don't end up treating myself before doing any work.....because the power to treat is also in my hand.....lolzzzz

To tell you the truth I have the same problem. I wish to do so many things and set up so many goals and I dont even achieve one of them. The first step I took is to set a step, a goal at a time. For example I am working at the moment but I dont wish to withdraw my studying. Lately without saying anything to anyone people especially at work are encouraging me to continue studying and that now is the time to do that before time rolls by. Im still young but sometimes I feel that I have such a long way to go but then I stop and think about what others say and I know that they are 100% right and that I shouldnt stop. All this is giving me courage to set a very important goal and succeed it within a few months or maximum a year. I dont know what type of goals you have but if they are very important to you, tell your self that now is the time to reach certain things or else it might be too late. If you have dreams/goals anything you wish, think how important they are to you and in your life. When you start reaching your goal, you will start mature in a certain way and you will be very proud of yourself.

I've gone through that. Someone told me once that you need to sit in the evening and make a list for the next day. Make it realistic, like dishes, shopping, vacuuming. Making it the night before helps me be mentally prepared for the day. In the morning I review the list and determine which to do first.
I also make a list for the week, sometimes it's things that would take a few days, or just a task I don't want to do, but it has to be done. Looking at the weekly, I make my daily, usually picking a few for the next day.
I've done it for up to a month. Start small to see if it will work for you.

Making a list will be a good idea.......in that way i can atleast keep a check as to what i am supposed to do and wot get lost thinking what i am supposed to do......
I had thought about this idea earlier but scrapped it......but since it worked for you.....i should certainly give it a try !!!!

Well, we shouldn't set up goals which are optimistic. Because of us being ambitious in nature we usualy set up goals that tend to be tight and don't leave us time for other events that at the end of the day would seem more important than the goals that we have set for. We should be very flexible in setting up our goals. For example, if we set up a goal that we will post and respond ten myLot things, we should leave the number that we set at seven or ten. And if at the end of the day we are able to do ten it will give us an added feeling of a sense of accomplishment and not that of a failure. Given this feeling our enthusiasm will keep on increasing and we will be able to set higher and higher goals.

oh... i too have the same problem. i start the day with a whole lot of targets only to find that i have barely done anything by the end of the day. but sometimes, i find that writing out a list of to-do things on paper and ticking off each item as it gets over, sometimes helps me to remain focussed through out the day.

that happens a lot. every day mostly. i will say in my mind that i will accomplish this particular goal and this day will be different cause i will be able to accomplish my plan. but nothing happened i will just give up and will just get tired and will just abandon the plan i had in the morning. it takes real determination to stick with our plan.

I do all the same like you.Which bother me so much, don;t know how to keep.
Then someday i said to myself ,it's time to stop it.So when i have a new idea ,i just keep it as a secret,I won't let others know till i do it or finnish it.And i feel better now.

Hi, there, john4Christ, laziness is the nature of everyone, every human being, even a little cat, have a desire to sleep in the sunshine all day long. but we human have thoughts and we have to do some work to complete the tasks. sometimes we set tons of goals, but we never complete them, or some of them. But if something push us behind, the situation will come to the other side.
for my part, a postgraduate, i have my task to complete, and i must hand over a paper, though the boss will finance me, and just out of which i have to work hard.
and one year ago, i did everything without plan, just let it go of. but now , the reality ask me to plan, to set goals, to finish everything in time.
so, my friend, all you need is stress. and if yof find the press, you will complete your goals.
have a good luck!
god bless!

you dont have to worry if you set some particular goals and you cnnot meet up. goals do not always come to reality and as humans we are limited under some circumstances, keep on setting goals and try to chieve whichever you want to achieve and remeber try and include alternatives in your goals , especially if a goal does not come to reality you can always swith to the alternative

Hello,
I used to do the same things, untill I realized that i was expecting a little to much from myself, half the things I will plan for me to do through out my day was just way to much, which will cause me to get tired and want to quit and fall and leave it off fo the next day or so, so what I do now is plan what I know I can do and acomplish that then, I know it would be safe to add on more task.
Happy My Lotting!
