When I was in high school, I purchased my Nokia 3210 at PHP 10,000. It was year 2000 and it was rare to find someone with a cellphone especially with the same unit as mine. The prepaid load back then was Php 300. I would not eat lunch just to load my phone every week. I enjoyed texting so much. It was fun. On my third year in college, Sun Cellular Company appeared and the hell with the price of the sim card needed to operate the phone, I bought it at Php 1,200, it was unlimited. I texted more. At the bathroom, I texted, at the mall, I texted, I texted everywhere. It was fun.
Sad thing is, I never got the chance to talk to my textmates personally. I never saw them in person. The only thing that established my identity with them is my name and phone number. To hell with the messages, they are always deleted. I forgot how to talk to real people. I even would spell "house" in a different way.
Well, this is just the story of my phone and the trend of texting. Have a lot of fun texting. It really is fun.

Thanks for your post. Texting really is fun. I wonder if I could ever live without a phone and a load. I think it is not worse during exams. It so much handy and useful during those days.

Once in my life, texting is fun. But now, I don't find it amusing. I felt that texting should be done with much importance. If you were to text nonsense things, then, you'd better stop, for the other end might be waiting for some important messages. Well, you can text some sweet nothings to your love one or bestfriend, but to someone you never knew, I don't find it really fun.

The first time that I got a phone was when I was working. That in year 2001. I not into texting that time since that was my first job and my priority was my job, and the cellphone was for me to get contacts for the client. I became addicted to texting when the unlimited offers entered. That was I guess 2005(?). I have this group and we call our text group text, I remember it is a setting on a Nokia phone and we did the text from morning til dawn. Its fun but the disadvantage it, you are being addicted, like you develop a habit that even at work you are texting which is not a good sign of professionalism. Glad that I overcome that, but I still text and if you said you are using Sun,well I am too.

I wasn't really a texter, I was more into chatting. But similarly, I had your type of cellphone on that same year. Hehehehe.. The good thing with mine was because my parents supplied my load hahahaha.. and I didn't need to load every week.
I think texting is okay, but it does diminish your confidence with meeting and talking to people face-to-face.
Not to mention that most people who text are those who either doesn't have jobs or those who are just plainly lazy hehehe..

I couldn't agree more. Texting is really great. Well, I'm quite astonished about the price of the sim card and the load back then. As oil prices increases, telcompanies' rates decrease. What more is that, people no longer have to buy prepaid cards and expensive sim cards nowadays. Those were like necessities already. Keep enjoying texting my friend...

The birth of cellphones particularly text messages has given us advantages as well as disadvantages. Yes texting is fun just like the world wide web where you can meet a lot of people but then in cellphones, most of the time you don't get the chance to see your text mates. I am thankful for the birth of text messages in the aspect of communication because it has been so useful to me, my family and my distant special someone. As texters, we should not forget the limitations of texting particularly our English grammar and spelling.
