Is being "nocturnal" bad for out health?

I tend to sleep at past 4 in the morning for these past few days. Then, I wake up at around 1 to 3 in the afternoon. My grandmother keeps on telling me to quit doing it because it will "lessen" my blood supply. Her point is, I'll be anemic or even have leukemia if I don't change my sleeping habits. I wonder if what she's saying is really true...or is it just some old superstition that they think exist?

I can tell you that is bad for your health. If you want to take good care for your health, you shouldn't do it again. Not only you don't receive enough sun shine, but you also can harm your liver. Once in 24 hours, usually at 11 PM o'clock, our liver would increase in volume. At this time, we should better on sleep, so the liver could processing it function normally. But if you are still awake at that time, continuosly it will harm your own liver function. This is the fact and you can ask your doctor. This is just one of the bad things for being nocturnal. There's still alot bad affect. The fact is the nocturnal person usually has shorter life period then normal person. Have a nice day and happy mylotting.

I think that is is bad for your health, but more for mental reasons rather than physical ones. Peoples body clocks and senses are set to sleep at night time. And be awake in daytime. This means that altho you are mentally sleeping, your physically awake because altho your brain is in rest mode, your senses are still working for example you are more likely to wake up during the day time then the night time by a loud noise, or a breez. But going back to your origional routine of sleeping at night again should be done slowly giving your body chance to reset. No matter what I always seem to be awake at 9 o'clock at the latest even if i only get to work at 4/5/6 o'clock in the morning. This really tires me out for the full week after and i tend not to be able to concentrate at all. Hope this helps. Josh

not true these days.what she probably means is because you're up at night, you won't get the sun,and be vitamin d deficient.if you're on that schedule now,you can take vitamins,or even have an artifical light box. i've always been a night owl,and so was my grandfather.some people's internal clocks are just set differently.
