With the ever present rise of solid state memory and USB memory sticks becoming so cheap, how long will it be before people laugh at any form of disc? If you think about it, even right now it is pointless buying them, you might aswell invest in an 8Gb pendrive and you can more or less put a blu-ray movie on it!!! For installing programs, most people use drive mounting programs which make your system think you have got a DVD in when you haven't - it's just a file!!!

Good question I remember when i am still college we still used floppy disk that time the 5 1/2 and 3.5 disk then after I graduated when I have first job suddenly the in thing is cd rom disk. Just how fast new technology that easily phase the then new technologies. Now that we see lot of this new usb drives which also getting better and bigger storage and you can save instantly just like a drive unlike blank cd that we need a third party software first to be able to write to it.I think Cd and DVD are out soon before you knew it. We are on fast changing world.

Maybe you are right, but we are still using them, and use them on many entertainment devices, such as car radio, or compact disc player. We still use DVD player at home, sooner maybe blue ray price going down. Until then, it might take a while for people adjust to the new technology.

Really, I don't think so. I think that CD and DVD will last for while, maybe for another decade, we still using it. Maybe they will come up something new from the technology firms. Otherwise, we are still using it.

I don't know how long the DVD or CD gonna last long, but they are still popular nowadays. I don't see any replacement is on the progress to replace them all yet. Maybe you are right, blue - ray sooner or later will gain its popularity. Not until the price of it drop to the affordable price that we can pay for it. So, right now, we are still stick with CD and DVD.
