Hello everyone - just another traveller!
In this kind of dark and gloom economy where everyone is downsizing - are your travel plans also in jeopardy or do you still travel or plan to travel?
Any tips on how to travel in a budget? I'd love to hear them.
I'm a traveller, and on a budget. I'm not sure if I can do both. =/

I guess it depends on where you live and where you want to go, but I have been able to take my kids on a lot of short trips rather than one large one. We go camping at state parks a lot. They are safe, clean, and very affordable. They are also located near other major attractions. We have a ball and we all look forward to the warm weather and our weekend adventures.

I love State Parks! There is often so much to do at the park itself that you dont even have to leave! This is really a great way to travel and see things on a budget!

It is free for me to borrow books from my local library. Then I can read excellent quality travel guide books. Essentially from those I am able to see how much the cheapest accommodation is. From looking at airline and budget travel agents I can see how much the airfare out there will be. I even have a look at the local travel web pages like Via Rail for Canada for example. I have found that camping in a tent and staying in dorms in backpacker hostels can be economical. I worked as a children's nanny in Finland and from that was able to save up to go around Europe by train. Some countries are cheaper than others. Good luck with budget traveling.

I lovew to travel but my bugget is always very tight. I shop for the least expensive tickets: there is a great difference in prices there.
I carry only one suicase that I can take it with me: I never pay someone to help me with the suitcase.
As soon as I get to the place I´m going, I check where is the pupermarket where the people from that country use. Not all grocery stores are good buys: some are for tourists. I make most of my meals myself. Even when I´m at a hotel room, I can make my own meals. I have a small gadget to heat a cup of water and take tea and instant coffee from home. Sandwichs can be made always and very good salads. If you want a better meal, you can always buy a grilled chicken.
IF I buy a souvenir, I buy something I need. Tee shirts are a good buy as you save a washing.
All the money I earn online is for traveling. I don´t put a cent of my money besides that as I can´t. But I have gone to awesome places that way. Now I´m paying for a trip tp the Caribbean I made ibn January. I´ll finish paying my air ticket to Colombia in November but I know I can do it.
Take care

You can absolutely do both! Here are a few things to consider:
*When are you going to travel? Many places have an 'off season' time. My husband and I went to Germany in February for less than half of what it would cost to go during the summer!
*Where are you going? You may not be able to pick your ideal destination because of costs, but that doesnt mean you cant travel! Find places that are closer to home or cheaper to get to. You can have a lot of fun even if it isnt your first choice of destination!
*Who are you going with? If you are going on vacation, is someone else going with you? Many times, you can get a hotel room with 2 double beds. If 3 friends come with you, then you can split the cost of the room between 4 people rather than having to pay for it all by yourself!
*What will you eat? Eating can often be one of the most expensive parts of traveling! Plan for this. Bring some snacks with you. Ask at the desk where the closest grocery store is. Get peanut butter and bread for lunches. If you have a frige in the room, you can even get lunchmeat and cheese. This will help you from having to buy every meal at a restaurant.
*RESEARCH! Before you ever leave home, do your research. Find out what the entrance fee is to the places you want to go. You may have to pick just one or two. Find out where the free attractions are. Find out where the cheaper restaurants are. Make a list of all of this information. This way, when you want to do something or eat something you know where to go that you can afford.
To plan for your trip, add some savings into your budget. Put aside a certain amount of money each month that you will use to travel. You can travel, you just have to plan for it!
