The rules of grammar do count, but they are not the whole matter. A grammatically correct English may not be a beautiful or charming language. However, A fluent speaker with lot of grammatical mistakes and errors can be called a good speaker or a good learner of Language. To what extent do you think grammar is important in learning language?

Crammer and spelling are very important. my worst pet peeve is seeing a simply street sign or billboard, marque, etc with something spelled wrong. Whether you own a business and made a new sign or put up words on the fast food menu, spelling and grammer should always still be proper.

Thank you very much for your response. It seems that you are also one of the victims of complicated spelling problem in English. I humbly wish to say that the right spelling is "GRAMMAR". Hope you won't mind my pointing out your mistake.

Grammar is very important if you are learning a language - any language. English is a lot more forgiving of poor grammar than many other languages, but that's not a reason for not learning to use grammar correctly.

Thank your for your comments. I must say that a purist can forgive a person playing with languag and taking it lightly. Language is not only a source of communication, it also delights the listeners as well. Therefore, treating every language with respect is essential. Language learning is an art. It can only be acquired and mastered over when it is taken seriously and paid proper attention to.

Yes,grammar is very important in learning English to make the communication more effective and clear. English is universal language and we need to study for the benefit of ourselves and for the rest of the world. Especially in Business Correspondence, you need to have good English communication skills in communicating with the clients to improve business performance.

Certainly. Not only in English, but it also important on other languages. How can you tell someone correctly if you don't understand your grammar? Actually there's a tolerance in our society regarding grammar mistakes. But if you want to take TOEFL test, it's highly require you to have strong English grammar skill. Good luck and have a nice day. Happy mylotting.

Grammar is important, it's what binds word together, but is no static. Nowadays, we live in a world of very fluid communication, so people are exposed to all sorts of varieties simultaneously, and this will have an impact on the language. Also, more and more non-native speakers are using it every day and they will also change things. The language isn't going to suffer from 'due to' appearing at the start of a sentence. Throughout the history of English things have changed and often dramatically. This is likely to increase in the years. I think there will be a greater simplification of the grammar to enable it to adapt to globalised information society of today's requirements

Grammar and spelling is definitely a must, for any language. I think it would be embarrassing to misspell something, especially if you're considered a professional. Plus, that's the only way you can effectively get your point across. However, like someone already pointed out - language is fluid and it does evolve. I think it depends on what you're writing about and your audience. You wouldn't use "wanna" and "gonna" in a technical document; but in poetry and music, its definitely acceptable.

I think spelling and grammar are very important. Both speaking and writing are necessary to effectively communicate effectively in any given language, and one should not overshadow the other.
