Do you have a savings?

It is said that it is not how high your salary/income is, It is how much you save? The standard of living a person has does not depend on the material things he owns - brand new house, brand new car, branded clothes an accessories. It is basically how a person lives within his/her means.
I know a lot of people who doesn't have a savings because they usually tell me that their earnings are just enough for their monthly budget.
I want to hear your thoughts on this.

I have no habit to saving money before I get married,I always spent all what I earned and that made me happy, but now my view changed ,I think for a family I and my hubby must have a saving, and we did, as there's many suddently things may happen ,if someone fall sick easpecially the old and the child,we need money to treat this things.it's very important and obligatory to saving part of money we earned, we need have a shot in the locker. Do you think so ?

Hi happy2009, thanks for trying to re-type your comments 4 times. lol. It really nice to hear different opinion on this. I am also like you - no savings when I am still single. I am now married and had no child yet but I would really want to start saving now. You are right when you said that we need funds/savings for emergency. Your comment is greatly appreciated. Thanks for the effort.

I believe that having a savings is a must! I have a large family and you never know what might come up. I have had minor emergencies come up and so far we have been lucky and not had to take any out of our savings but if we needed to, it was there. I put money in it every month and forget it is there. It is one thing to say you save but it is another thing to actually save. I have a friend who puts money into savings every month but then she sees something she doesn't think she can live without and ends up taking it out of her savings. It is something she wants, not needs. I have, in the past 4 months, learned to live with what we need and not what we want and I have been able to save a lot more. More than I ever did before. I don't want to work untill I die and our savings will make retirement much easier. I not only put money into our savings account but I also save our change and I don't spend my $1 bills. This money I stash at home and use it for emergencies so I don't have to take from our actual savings. It amazes me how fast they add up. Every little bit helps.

I do have a savings but it only has very little in it. I told myself this month I was gonna try and save some money but i was unable to do so. I have been working only online and I made some good money this month but it seems I am almost broke again. I think I spent too much in the begining of the month which made me use more of my online money. I hope I can save next month. Take care and happy mylotting to you.

I save as much as I can each month, and always try to earn a litte extra here and there with myLot and other earning sites. I believe in saving when times are good as well as bad, and always having a long term savings or investment account and a short term savings account. I respect those who live within their means, and personally try to live within mine while also providing myself a bit of padding too!

I think that it is very smart to have a savings, after all you never know if you are going to lose your job tomorrow or have a medical emergency that would result in you needing cash.
With every pay check we have a routine, we first Pay God, set aside our money for tithing, then we pay ourselves, set aside our savings, and then and only then do we pay our bills then we have play money.
When I worked my entire check went to savings, well of course we took our our tithe out of it first then savings. We would live off of my husbands pay check. When I had to quit work it was not that big of an adjustment for us, we did not get to save as much as we once did, but we were confident in the fact that we had saved so much for so long that we would be okay. We do still save every month, just not a much as when I was working

Very well said. Thank you for the idea. I want to discuss this with my husband and if you will permit, I would like to apply the same principle on how we handle our finances. Our current finances right now is that when we receive our pay check, I'll get 10% tithes then expenses, if lucky, I can save the rest. But to be honest nothing is left to be save. lol.

I think savings are extremely important! In fact, my husband and I put money into savings every month. I treat it like a bill. It is the most important one we have. We are always paid first!
There will always be something you can spend your money on. There will always be something else you want. No matter how much money you make, you can spend it all each month if you wanted to.
I do think that it is about how much you save and not how much you earn. Two people can earn the same amount of money but have completely different lives. One might spend all of their money on brand new cars and clothes. They have all of the latest gadgets. The other person makes sure they have nice things, but also makes it a priority to save money. Most times, the person who saves money is the one who is happier. It isnt the money that is making one person more happy than the other becaue they both make the same. It is what they choose to do with their lives that makes them happy or unhappy!
It is easy to say you will do something when you get a raise or when you make more money. It is harder to find a way to make it happen today. But if you dont make it happen now, it probably never will!

HI, Great discussion you got here. I own a home, two cars and have two children in my family. My husband doesn't have a job anymore. Only me is working for supporting the family. If you are talking before, my husband made good money and I save a lot for all of us... I mean a lot. However, after everything change... I can save only half of that... But this are good enough for my kids to go to a good school. I always take 10% for my saving and some tip money for my food and gas. Other bills are paid by taking two day of my works to pay. I work as cash with no tax. These are good enough for all of us here... But i prefer to have my husband back to his job and I will able to save much much more than what I have so far

LOL... at the age of 20 I already have a small business of my own, I'm not busting with what kind of person I am, but instead I'm busting of how my mother had molded me to become who i am now.... Oh sure, I have like 2 dollars in the savings... we need to pay for lots of bills and expenses which lots of people are normally doing as well. The bills just steal the paid check at the end of the month so we don't really have much to save or spend on extra stuff... so sometimes I think if we live for paying bills...

Yes, I do believe in saving up for the future. You will never know when you may suddenly need money, be it for medical bills or other emergency situations. I do save up a certain amount every month in another bank account. Although I do know the the current savings interest rate in my country is now really very low (it's about 1/4% interest rate here for normal savings account), I do still save up some cash every month. I do not believe in spending every cents I earn every month.

Hmmm well for me I am earning a very small amount of money in my job, but I always save whenever I can, its not that much though but I am proud that I do have my savings in case if it is needed, my other co workers have bigger salaries but they tend to spend it a lot so they end up borrowing money from other people, which is for me a big NO. It is wise to save your money even if how little you can save eventually it will grow and then you can say that it is worth the effort.

I believe that you live according to your income. Some people will have nothing to save whether they earn $2000 or $20 000. Some people are always in debt, no matter how big their income.
I save at least 10% of my income, and my income is below middle class, far below. if you do not save you will regret it when something happens and you need cash. Then you will be forced to make a loan, which is more debt.
Live with less so you can have more to live for.

i am currently working now, and i think saving some money from what you make is a good idea, as you dont know what's comming or whats gonna happen, saving money is for emergency reason, so i see to it i save some from what i make. even though its hard to budget your fund but you can still save a little amount from what you make.
happy posting!!!

yes i do have some savings, no matter how small i can lay my hands on, i always make sure i go to the bank every week to save some money, it is very helpful though sometimes i have to starve myself to get some money saved in my account, but i am sure i will always have something to buy whatever for myself at the end of few months
