Hi everyone!
I have some vintage butterick patterns for stuffed toy horses; you've guessed it, it's to make your own vintage my little pony stuffed toy! I am looking into what fabrics to use and what type of filling. Of course there is a thorough description in there, but I was hoping perhaps some people who've made stuffed animals before can give me some tips. Are there things I need to watch out for, what type of fabrics work best, etc? I am thinking off using some sort of fleece and genuine doll hair or wool for the main and tale.
Thanks in advance! Please share your experiences!

Im sorry that I cant be a lot of help, because I have never made stuffed animals before. I would make sure you pick a thick fabric that doesnt fray though. That should help the animal to last a while.
I mostly wanted to tell you how awesome that is! I loved my little pony when I was little. We had a ton of the ponies! We even found a few brand new ones at my mom's when we were clearing things out a couple of years ago.
I think the recipient of the pony you make will be one lucky person!

I am not sure I am selling the pony off though, derlilaStern. I am a pretty serious collector myself and I love my little ponies . If I get good at it I might consider selling them or trading them for items I don't allready have in my collection. Thank you for at least trying to come up with some good tips. The thick fabric is indeed a good option to make sure that the toy will last a long time. Good to hear that my little pony has been a heart warming presence in your childhood aswell .

I didnt realize you were making it for yourself. I assumed you were making it for a child in your life. Enjoy it!

That's an honest mistake, no worries . If I were to make it for a child there would be also a lot of more thinking envolved on how to make the toy safe, especially for a small child. The only (small) child in my life right now is my foster brother. He does love ponies but he only likes them as he is immitating me. I once gave him one and he was easily bored by it and never looked at it again . Thanks for responding.

When I made mine I used a fabric that had short fur that I found in the clearance bin. To stuff it I used the poly filling ( sort of looks like a cloud ). One thing I did that I would change is that I over stuffed it. She turned out a little hard, but still ok. I also used wool for the mane and tail, but again I used too much and her mane is very thick. I bet that using doll hair would turn out nice. I also wouldn't recommend the fake eye lashes like the pattern suggest, the looked strange on mine and fell off quite easily. Can't wait to see it when you are done.

I'd be sure to post pics here and on mlparena when I have one done. It might take a while though as the last couple of months in college and work might take up most of my time. I hope to have a lot of spare time during summer vacation in which I hope to make my big G3 style plush pony (roseare was selling these patterns I believe) that will reach up to my waiste .
I would love to see your stuffed my little pony aswell. Happy mylotting and thanks so much for responding .

I can't wait to see it. I have seen some of roseare's big plush and they are gorgeous. I would love to make one, but just don't have time to sew much anymore. I posted a picture of the plush awhile ago, but I am not sure where. I'll repost it for you to see. She turned out a little fat, lol.
