Suppose you have a friend who eats whatever he gets and is putting on weight. What will you do to make your friend live a healthy life style?

You have described me. I wish that I had a friend that would have started walking with me when I started to gain weight. I know that my health is my responsibility, but it would have been nice if a friend would have said, hey lets do this together it will be fun. Now I am extreamly overweight and am having problems finding real motivation not only to eat more healthy but also to loose weight.

You should try to forget about problems and start working... Just see my response to know the aftermath. I don't know why I am commenting here. Maybe because I am a medical student, anyway I just can't see a fellow mylotter ruining his life. Brace up and start losing weight!

Please don't misunderstand me or feel hurt. I didn't mean to be stern. I just wanted to share my knowledge with you for your own good. I am a medical student, so I can't leave such cases unnoticed. And a little bit of sternness helps, right?

I don't know, I'm guilty of that right now myself. Junk food is cheaper than real food unfortunately in these hard times and seems more anti-depressant. I'm trying to forage, but most recipes have regular food that you add with it that also costs $, so I don't know the answer for this time period. Take care

I think junk food is not good for health and fruits and vegetables are good for health.

True, when my refrigerator gets fixed (it's freezing everything, apples, lettuce) I think I will go back to real food again. Until then, wild food is about the only veggies I get and I'll have to buy one fruit at a time. Popcycles have 25% vit. C if they're Edys.

Personally it would be hard to watch someone I was Good friends with just sit there all of the time and eat almost anything and everything and never think about it even if they were continuing to just get heavier and heavier. I would really try to encourage them somehow to change their lifestyle and eating habits, and try to help find them more Healthier choices, but in reality the choice is really theirs. Unfortunately, Until they see a need to change, many will not do it. That is why you will often see people with Relatives that are bigger than they are even in reality shows like biggest loser even.

I don't think there's anything you can do or say without being offensive. You could invite them to do something active with you on a regular basis, such as canoeing, paddleboating, kayaking, running, walking, going to the gym - but they might think that you're trying to SAY something about them instead of trying to have fun and invite them along. I think you just need to be supportive of your friend and support them through "thick and thin"; because friendship should go beyond outside appearances.

I feel very much sad about your friend. There are people like that. And in some cases it's purely psychological or sometimes due to other behavioral or mental problems. Does he suffer from a disease called Compulsive Overeating(binging)? If he doesn't know, being his friend, you should talk to him about it. But before that, just check whether I am right... Let me just tell you what I have learnt for my medicals: Does he show the following symptoms? -Rapid and extreme weight gain -Excessive consumption of food(more than what is provided) -Buying large amounts of food and still unsatisfied. -Eating when hurt, angry or upset. Problems likely to occur: -Heart attack. -High Blood pressure. -cholesterol. -stroke. -ruptured stomach. -kidney disease and renal failure. -arthritis. -bone deterioration. Before his eating can destroy his life, I encourage you to give him proper advice and refer him to some doctors. After all, he your friend right? Best of Luck!

maybe you could start to work out with him, or tell him that you'd like a diet buddy and would he be willing to do it with you.

since he is my friend, i would try to prevent him from having more food and putting weight. I will make him understand the difficulties that we face when putting on weight and make him aware of the diseases that could occur due to overweight.

When i saw my friends eats whatever he gets and is putting on weight, i will suggest them to stop that habits. Getting too fats i think it is not really good for healths and it is a little bit difficult to find a mates if they not rich enough.
