This morning I was going downstairs to change the laundry from the washer to the dryer before I went to work. For some reason, my foot halfway missed the top stair and down I went! I slid/fell down about 5 stairs landing mostly on my butt, but my elbows, back and shoulders took a bit of a beating too. Even since I've gained a fair amount of weight, that didn't really seem to cushion me too much. My back and arms hurt, and I'm sure I'll be stiff later. When's the last time you fell down the stairs? Was it a full flight or just a few steps? Hopefully you weren't hurt badly!

I fell going up instead of going down. I was wearing these really comfy furry sandals and I was running up the stairs at my apartment. The stairs by the way are like cement. Anyway, I fell forward, scraped my knee and both palms on my hands. I felt so stupid too. I only wear those inside now!

I fell upstairs once too, but that was at a bar, after a concert... I was a bit drunk, but I didn't spill my drink!

As long as you didn't spill your drink, then things will be ok =)

i havent fell down the stairs for quite a long time which is surprising because we live in a 5 level town house! (lots of stairs!) i guess the only one time that i ever did any major damage by falling down the stairs was just after my now hubby and i started dating (some 23 years ago - we have been married for 21) i was running down the stairs to help him open the back door and missed the last 3 stairs and ended up breaking a bone in my foot - fortunately it was summer and i was off work for awhile!

Ouch!!! I was worried as I was falling - you know, the life flasing before you eyes bit - that I was going to break something. I was very lucky, I'm not really that sore today, and I don't see any bruising (yet).

Hi reinydawn - Oh my... I hope you feel better. That is sure a very scary feeling because you basically have no control when flying down the stairs. I have done that once in my life and can remember just about every detail & that was about 14 years ago. The reason I remember how long ago it was is because my son was an infant at the time and I was holding him in my arms all the way down! We lived in a townhouse and the stairs were wood. I was wearing a pair of socks and slipped on the top step. Luckily, I just held my son as tight as possible and my rear end took the beating all the way down. I was very fortunate and lucky that I was able to stay upright since both of my hands were holding onto my son I wasn't able to balance myself at all with my hands. It was one of the scariest moments of my life. I had my son's life in my hands... literally! He is now 14 years old, just shy of 6' & wears size 13 men's shoes, so I guess the trip down the steps did no harm to him. LoL! Take it easy today. My mom used to work for a chiropractor and she always tells me to apply ice for the first 24 hours then heat after that. If you continue to hurt anywhere after four or five days, I'd make an appointment to see your doctor. Hopefully you just got some bumps & bruises that will heal after a few days. Take care Dawn. Jill

Yes, falling with your kids in your arms is very scary! I've done that before, but usually just a little trip, not down the stairs. I did fall down the stairs when I was pregnant with my 2nd. That scared my mom really bad - hey, I was doing laundry that time too!!! I was fine though, and my son had no adverse effects from it either.

Yes, best of luck to you. My husband has knee and back problems, that usually attributes to the numbness in his legs and feet. I hope you get some good news so they can fix it for you.

Thank goodness you & your unborn son were ok after that fall down the stairs reinydawn! I'm always worried that I'll trip or slip coming down the stairs here at our apartment when I'm carrying in an armload of groceries. Luckily my son & husband carry most of them in for me since I'm not too steady on my feet with the numbness I have been having for two years now... cause unknown as of yet. Thankfully I just recently got health insurance coverage again and have gone back to see a doctor who is scheduling me for more tests and an MRI to try to find out what is going on. Wish me luck! Hope you had a nice holiday weekend! Jill

Actually, I'm doing much better than I thought I was going to be. No bruising (yet) and only a bit of soreness in my shoulders. I'm so glad that I didn't get hurt for real.

This last summer I had just moved into a new house with a family. They have two teens and three baths. The master suite was for the parents. We decided the upstairs bathroom would remain the teen's; and I would use the bath downstairs. Each morning I got up earlier than anyone and about 5:00 I headed downstairs carrying my clothes and bathing supplies. I have no idea what happened, but somehow I missed the bottom step and sprawled out into the living room floor! I was very embarrassed but thankful that no one was up to see! I threw my back out a litte, and twisted my knee and also agravvated an already injured hip! It didn't take me long to get over it, and now it makes a funny story!

I'm so glad you weren't hurt badly! I actually don't have any bruises (yet) and only a little soreness in my shoulders. I don't know that I want to tell too many people about it, but I'm also glad no one else was here to see it!

YIKES! I used to do that intentionally as a child. Now days, I have a bad back and bad leg and it is hard for me to climb UP steps at times. Some days it is no problem, then other days I could fall trying to climb back up from the basement. Hope you don't get brusied badly. Iyt's been a long time I fell on steps. I catch myself most times now days. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

OK Grandpa Bob, it's official - you're nuts! At least you were in your chldhood days!! I think I hurt myself more by trying to catch myself, but I haven't gotten any bruising yet. Hey, have you tried taking Glucosemene (sp) for your joints? It takes a while to kick in, but my husband couldn't walk up and down stairs at all without it.

I think I am so strange sometimes because I can't walk down the stairs unless I can actually see the next step. My foot just has no clue where that step will be. Oddly enough, I can't do it very well even when I CAN see the step!

Ouch thats gotta hurt! I almost fell down the steps acouple weeks ago - grabbed the railing and caught myself. Before that was a few years ago i fell down the steps - tripped on a sheet someone had thrown down the steps instead of down the clothes shoot. I fellon my butt on each of the 4 stairs pretty hard and broke the "tailbone" I was sitting on pillows n stuff for weeks! Sounds pretty sad to say i broke my butt!

Hi, I am deeply sorry you fee down the stairs and I am happy our are okay. The last time and first time I fell down the stairs was about two months ago. I was wearing my husband's flip flops (don't ask they are comfortable) and I was walking down the stairs with the phone to call my husband. I had just cleaned up my daughter's miss in her playpen. She had too ker diaper off and since she is able to take her tab diapers off. Well, walking down the stairs, I had some of the gel contain on the bottom of the flip flop (I amassuming) but I know they were a bit on the stairs. Our Stairs are wood not steel nor stone. Well I fell first backwards, my feet went from under me and I dropped the phone. I landed on my butt and started sliding down the stairs. Since we moved in a home that don't have posts nor railings, I was deeply screwed. Instead of sliding straight down the stairs towards the bottom, I headed uncontrollable to the side, right between the stairs and the second floor level meets. I tried to hold on and fix myself but I could not. I ended up turn myself around and then I land face first at the bottom of the stairs. I was scared and thought I post my head open. But I was ok. I had a huge knot on my head and my knee was sore. I had a small gash on my left knee. I thought I might have bust my head open as an after thought since I have a bad experience when I was a preschooler. I was at pre-k when I bust the back of my head open. That's is the oney reason. I had thought of that. There was another time when I fell up the stairs on a step or two, holding my few month daughter. She was ine, I made sure I landed on my person with her away and upeard from the ground. My husband asked me if I was ok after hearing me land on the ground. I am afraid to go up and down the stairs now. But I still continue to go up them I try to go slowly and my husband will try to tell him from time to time even when I think I am going slow. I hope you feel better and becareful travelling on your house steps. Take Care,
