Doggie Treats

If you have a dog or a cat, What kind of treats do they like? Do they have to do something special to get them? How many do you give them in one day/week?
We go to Petco and purchase the bulk treats for our Baby Girl. She likes these best and I like that I can mix and match so that she doesn't get the same thing every single day. They are nutritionally good for her too. She really likes the ones that look and taste like chocolate chip cookies! They are her favorite. But I also get Peanut Butter cookies, the ones that look like sandwich cream cookies, chocolate bones and the mix that are multi-colored treat bites that are shaped like little bells.
She gets one treat a day, normally after we have come in from work/school and she has gone without an accident in the house. This is generally every day. The only time she has accidents anymore is if for some reason we are delayed in getting home for more than 4 hours, which is rare. If we're going to be gone that long, I get someone else to come over and take her for a walk.

I have a miniature dachshund, and she is really picky about treats. She seems to only like the best...no cheap stuff. haha. She likes anything made by Dingo. They make rawhide bones in different flavors. I get the Mini Dingo's for her. They make them mini and all size in between all the way to a really jumbo bone for really big dogs. I only give her a dingo bone about once a week as a treat. They take her some time to eat but she enjoys them and it keeps her busy for a while.
She also likes chicken jerky. This is her favorite treat. She gets a piece of one every morning before I leave for work.
Another favorite is Yougurt Drops. I found these at PetSmart after someone else told me that their dog loves them. They come in a yellow resealable bag, don't know the brand name right off the top of my head. The same company also makes chocolate and peanut butter flavored drops. Haven't tried those on her, but she absolutely LOVES the yougurt ones. If I give her 2 or 3 of those with other stuff, she goes straight for the drops first. There are about 60 or more in a bag for about $3 a bag, and I usually give her 2 every morning, so they last a long time.

I saw these when I went to Petco, but the brand they have was $6.99. We don't have a PetSmart nearby. I know there's probably one in the next town over, so I may have to look when I go next time. Baby loves the cookies with the strawberry cream in them that you get in the bulk bins. They are her favorites, though she also has taken a recent liking to the ones shaped like Teddy Grahams!

With all our cats, we only do treats about once a month, and then the roomie will open a bag of treats and "feed the chickens" by scattering them about the room. A few special ones get their treats set aside for them, generally put under their noses because they won't get involved with the rest of the "hordes" on the floor

Wow. How many cats do you guys have? We just have the one very spoiled dog. She is at the moment curled up at my husband's feet. He has a pinched nerve in his back, so he's been either in bed or on the couch all day, and she won't let him get very far awsay from her. She knows something is wrong with him. It's amazing how animals just sense that kind of thing.

Wow. Are they all inside, or do some of them stay outside? I know you're always posting new pics and I love seeing the new babies.
My friend that was my suite mate in college was getting ready to get her oldest daughter a new kitten for her birthday, but found out this last week that the middle daughter is allergic to cats! Now not only does Karra not get her new kitten, but they are finding homes for the other two.

I do not regularly give the cats treats. However, if they find I have some, they will help themself. If I open a package anywhere in the house my black cat is right there. The old Tiger got her goodies off the shelf and had to share with the others. I had a free package of "Greenies" and they liked them really well.

That sounds like my sister in law's Siberian Huskies. They love peppermint candies. They will hear you open the cellophane and come running. I went into my bedroom and opened one of those soft peppermints. Both dogs were outside, and I was on the opposite side of a 3900 square foot house. As soon as I ripped the paper open, I turned around and Jake was underneath my feet begging for my candy.

Well my friend, I am seeing it again. I'm here in Phoenix, visiting with my mother in law for two weeks. I have the cat in my lap (Dweezil didn't get the memo that I'm a DOG person) and all three of the dogs, both Huskies, and my brother in law's lab -mix at my feet. Every time I move my person, or pick it up to go somewhere they are immediately at my elbow. Don't think dogs aren't brilliant animals...and they never forget!

We have a whippet/black lab mix. The vet said it would be best to keep her at between 40-45 pounds. SO we give her veggies as snacks to help keep her trim. She enjoys baby carrots the best.

I may have to try that. I know Baby loves raw potatoes. I found this accidently when I dropped a piece when I was cutting them up to fry last week. She grabbed it and before I realized that I'd even dropped it hardly, she had nearly swallowed it whole she ate it so fast

My dog loves Pup-Peroni. I have a bag now and I usually give him about a stick a day. He's pretty small so I break it up into little pieces and usually give him some for correctly performing a little trick or command. But it's not the cheapest so I don't have a permanent stock of them. Those seem to be his favourite but he'll eat pretty much any treat I offer him, so I buy him various things from time to time. I think he likes the softer Alpo treats too among others.

For a long time Baby liked the beef sticks that we got at the dollar tree. Then one day I bought a different brand, and from then on, she wouldn't even try them. I think she didn't like the taste of the others and she thinks I'm trying to give her those or something.

Treats can be used for anything. Training, reinforcement, coaxing or just to give some love :)
I run an internet store that sells gourmet treats that are all natural and come from small, family run businesses around the country. Obviously, my pups get those the most :) But we do occasionally buy bones and such to keep it spiced up :)
If you e-mail me at amie@thedogtreatjar.com I will respond with a coupon for you :)

I will take a look. I'm a little leery about spending too much, as she is so finicky about what she will and will not eat. And she gets in stages. What she loves this week, she may not take at all tomorrow! My husband says I spoil her, but I think she's just loved. Right now, she's laying on my couch...on top of a cushion like a queen.
