It has been reported that companies are doing internet searches on possible new employee but should this be allowed. If they are not allowed to ask about political groups or religious background why should they view your profile on a web site. Also how can they be 100 percent sure they are viewing the right person. Just doing a search for a name could lead to a different person with the same name. Not all picture on the net are clear. It is also possible that someone else could have posted something or put up a picture without that person knowledge. What do you think, is this practice a violation of privacy esp. if they don't ask ?

Well, as a matter of personal rights, it is wrong. We often write things on your profiles just to attract people or look cool. I have a notorius "Many positions available" sticker on my profile, which I intend to be taken in a playful manner. However, a company visiting my profile might not like it. That doesn't mean that I am an unworhty candidate. its probably just for fun. Now again, nothing on the net is private, so we have to be careful about what we post. I use an alias on mylot so that I cannot be traced by anyone.

Your right but if a company just searched your name and found someone with the same name, they could mistake it for you. That is why I really don't like the idea of them doing a blanket search on the internet without asking.

Well, I agree that could be a problem. Then my only hope would be that the other person has a good attractive profile. Seriously I never understood why profile is such a big help. Most people write crap on their profiles. Theyh write poems, friendship quotes and blah blah blah never really anything about themselves. Why should companies bother?
