Really you should be scared then man. Apart from the terror created from what you said there has been a lot of mess of your money .One thing that i would like to tell you is when ever there is a storm remove your cable/Dish connection of your T.V,Computer etc and never switch on or use any of them during the Storm.
I hope you were insured when this happened and if the things that were destroyed were not insured ,Feel lucky that you were safe when this happened .Don't worry and be happy.

Oh my goodness that is just so sad!
I can imagine your shock when you arrived home and saw the damage that was done. It happened to me too 4 or 5 years ago. The house I was living in then had a very bad electrical wiring sytsem and the cables were older too and a thunderstorm when I was out and... I was insured though so I was able to claim back all the things that were destroyed - my computer, a television and a cordless phone.
Now I have a surge protector but even so, when there is a thunderstorm nearing I unplug everything. Even though I have the insurance I do not like being without my computers so I hope it wil not happen again.
You have a lot of catching up to do now but if you have time to be busy you can start earning back some of the money you had to spend

I've had a similar issue before but with my Xbox 360. It was late last year and there was a big storm that was hitting where I live. At some point during the night, lightning must have struck close to my house my house because there was a very loud boom. Somehow, the only thing it seemed to affect was my Xbox 360 and it ruined my power adapter. I ended up having to buy a new one later. In stores they're $100+ but fortunately I found a new one on eBay for a little less than thirty dollars.

If I know there is a storm around, I usually unplug things. I do have computer things plugged into a surge protector just in case. I feel very sorry for you, that is so unlucky. I normally know when there is a storm coming because my internet doesn't work properly, so it's a good warning.

Hi, icesmile, sorry for what happened. You live in a house or building? I think your problem is due to the suddenly overflow of the voltage, storm and lightning is the cause. Have you installed fuse in the socket? it may prevent what was happened. Hope you live well and bad thing never happen again !
Happy myLotting !!
