Just as I thought that I had got it sorted

Have you ever thought that you had everything organised, and only just at that; when you discover that actually you have a lot more time than you thought. For example you are asked to hand in a report and you think "they'll want that fast". So you work hard to achieve a self imposed deadline, only to hand it in and discover that it's not needed for at least another week. All that haste for nothing.

Yep - I've whizzed through my life, wasted most of it and now I don't know what to do with the bit of time I have left. Can't go back to school and do it properly ... can't go back and sort out my lack of parenting skills ... can't get motivated enough to get off my hefty backside at all. All that haste for nowt ...

Yep. Like, just when I thought I had a certain Mr. Fish sorted and swimming upstream to spawn with ........(just what do you call a female fish?), he makes a Uturn and starts swimming downstream and I'm left in the shallows thinking 'what the hell....'.
Ok, ignore me. That just popped into my head when I saw this in my inbox and my fingers got ahead of my good sense..................

LOL no. I'm one of those procrastinators that come skidding in at the last minute. Its the same with pretty much everything in my life. If company is coming, even if I have a weeks notice, i'm still scrambling to get the cleaning done as they are pulling in the driveway. All my paperwork is turned in at the last possible second and my bills always arrive on (or sometimes a little after) the due date LOL.
Oh well, makes life interesting

Yeah, but if you are early, you know you won't be late getting it handed in.

Exactly. I was like that all through Uni and I loved having the extra time to polish and refine. Besides I cannot not do something. If I have a task and cannot do it straight away, I stress and fret about not doing it.
I have always preferred to do things straight away and then relax.

Hi Pikey! I don't remember having this happen to me when it was just me but I am sure it must have at some point in my life! If I have a deadline and if I am in Complete control, (no one to depend on for anything), then whatever needs to be done Will be done early with plenty of time to spare. I hate to wait until the last minute to do something, although at times, when I need someones help etc. then I must wait and of course go on their time schedule and many times I find in this case things get done at the skin of the teeth so to speak!
This makes me a raving lunatic because I Hate to be late, I Hate for anyone to wait on me and I Hate to be short of time running around like crazy getting all upset that something will not reach the deadline when I could have taken my time and sailed through the project with plenty of time to spare. Then I have no worries and can play all I want while all of the other fools are running around going nuts!
I always find also if something is due by a certain time and the deadline is not met then there is always a price and punishment to be paid for being tardy!! Oh look at me! Now I sound like one of those old time school Ma'am's with the wool sweaters, skirts, socks and sensible shoes carrying a paddle around school ready to spank all the bad little boys!!

I don't like tardiness either GEL. Several years ago I was on an interview panel during a train strike. My two colleagues and I had come considerable distances from outside London to be there on time, but we all got there by 8.30am. The first candidate was due at 9, didn't turn up until 9.40 saying that she had been caught out by the strike. She lived a mile from the office!! She didn't get the job!

I can definitely see why she wouldn't get the job P1key! I would not have given it to her either! It always amazes me how some people will use any excuse to try to get themselves out of problems when actually it usually gets them in much deeper!!

I can honestly say that has never happened to me...it's more likely that I would be handing something in too late...thinking I had an extra week and taking my sweet time to make it "perfect" when if I had handed it in when finished I would have been on time.

Hi p1key,
Well at least you don't have to worry about them now and relax, the only time I've done something like that was when my hubby came home with some new trousers fro work and he asked me to turn the hem up, there I was kiling myself to do them as he has to take them back and change each time he goes in, so when Idne them only for him to tell me he won't be nedding them till the end of the month as he was moveing department and he was not in a hurry, grrr. Hugs.

Not very often. I've worked on my sense of procrastination so long that it's generally more like an artform...lol. Any loose ends, where I used to finish a few things ahead of schedule have been corrected by the discovery of websites like this one. Now instead of thinking about the time that something should be done by, I'm more thinking about a target day...or even week.

I've done that before--usually after finishing something before the deadline, I'll give myself time to relax. I'll sit and read a book or go to the park. It's a nice change from being stressed out while procrastinating.

the key is time management. and knowing the real deadlines. i mean, you can do stuff in advance because for example you have a lot of other things to do.

I don't see why being in this situation upsets you. If you unexpectedly finish something much in advance, and then find you have extra time, that is fabulous. We sometimes then to procrastinate whenever we know the time something is due. We tend to do it just before the due date. This creates a lot of stress. How wonderful to find that you are finished way ahead of time and can now relax.
It's like finding a 20 dollar bill you didn't know you had in that old jacket that you decided to put on again.

Hi P1kef1sh, the only time I can remember getting everything organized thinking I only had that day to do it was when I was expecting guests so I got all the bedding and towels all washed and ironed and put back on the beds only for them ringing at the last moment saying it would be the following weekend instead, but at least it was ready well in advance and I could relax a bit before they arrived knowing the spare room was done LOL Huggles. Ellie :D

I've done that! I was told that I had to defend my department's budget once. I sat up making sure that everything was just so - hardly slept. Turned up for work the next day to be told - the Chairperson has a cold and won't be in today so we've cancelled the meeting - Grrrr. But we did do it later.
