I think that if you pray and believe that the prayer will be answered, in due time it will be. I think belief and faith is the powerful thing in prayer and in religion, reading scriptures and being positive is another way.

God does here all our prayers, he may not answer them in a manner that we understand or he may not give us the answer that we want, but he hears and he answers. Most the time we are so busy looking for an answer that we do not see/hear our answer. Then when we do here our answer we are sometimes not satisfied with the answer we get so we refuse to accept that was in fact our answer. And at times our answer is no answer at all.
God does things in his own time, he answers in his own way, he does things in Gods Time. Sometimes it is best to sit and be still.
I believe there is a verse Psalms 46:10 Be still and know that I am Lord.
Sometimes we need to slow down long enough and listen to what God is telling us and be willing to accept what he has to say.

Seek God first, then all else will follow. When I pray, First I ask for forgiveness for any sins I have on me; it is a wall between you and God.

God answers our prayers in different ways. He can say yes and grant your prayers. He can say no, because he has a better plan for. And he can say wait, because you are not yet ready to receive it. One thing why our prayers are not answered is "If I (referring to man)regard iniquity in my heart God will not hear me.

Prayer is a powerful tool that God has given us today and it is best to use it wisely. I suggest that you read the bible, particularily Mathew Chapter 6. Jesus explains very cleary how one should pray. And when you pray, believe that your prayers have been heard and maintain a spirit of expectancy for your answer. Do not base your prayers on fear as God will not respond to fear based prayers. Paul says in Hebrews 4:16 "let us come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need." You must have confidence in your prayers and remember to ALWAYS give thanks to him no matter what your circumstance is..
Ask God to lead you into a powerful prayer, let him teach you how to pray and read your bible as that is how you will be able to pray and God will be able to intervine in your life. Hope this helps.
