I love garlic. Garlic and onions are two of the veggies-spices that can´t disappear from my kitchen. I remember to buy them before I use them all. I eat them raw, cooked, fried and roasted. Each way has a different taste.
I don´t think that eating anything will prevent a contagious illness per se. But a healthful body with natural defenses has more chances to fight.

I agree that garlic is an excellent health food. It brings several benefits to the body but as you say, loses it's power if over cooked. My rule is to add garlic not more than five minutes before a dish is ready. That way I get the full flavour and retain the health advantages. Chopped finely and added to a salad is also a good way to eat it. Another easy way is to make garlic bread by mixing finely chopped garlic in olive oil or butter before spreading on bread which is then put under the grill or laid on the barbecue. Lovely!
