Tivo allows you to pause live TV.( if you needed to answer the phone) Or back up TV if you missed something someone said.( because you spouse started talking) Or you can program it to record you favorite shows. Or program it to record Shows that interest you...Like if you liked a certain Actor. Tivo would record everything starring that actor on TV..

I have TiVo too! It IS great for when your loudmouth spouse starts talking over your shows.
