Hi friends, the term "Recession" is almost heard or talked about daily these days. It is a really tough time for the whole world over. I myself have been a victim of recession and have realised the value of spending wisely and making thoughtful decisions. Have anyone of you or your family members been affected by recession? If so, how are you coping with it? Is it really easy to get another job or are you even thinking of switching careers!! Please share your experiences.

Affected in a way because I don't have the luxury option to be able to change jobs right now. But I love my job as of current, however I'd love to have the option to. In terms of spending, I need to cut at least 1/4 of it. No more late night movies so much, and no more buying of this and that. If only gas money could be reduced, then that would be more awesome. I'm waiting for that to come, but sometimes the price goes down a little only; not too much. On the whole, I'd say I'm coping well. I hope the swine flu plus the recession go away soon.

I am very much affected by the recession. So right now I am trying to find multiple income streams. Meaning, besides my regular job, I am looking for other ways and ventures to earn money. One example is mylot and my other online activities. Earnings may not be that fast but the extra cash is still of great help. I am also trying to spend more wisely and responsively.

I would say sadly yes. I do.not.work. I have a job that stopped giving me hours in mid February and since then I dont really work. I want to work I look for work but noone wants to hire me. SO we are badly affected. My poor sister is paying everything her self and has to keep borrowing money from my mom. But since I dont work even though I look and cant get hired its all on her. SO many people apply for one job getting even an interview is impossible. Last year at this time I had a second job and was working the one not giving me hours at all now. This year? I cant even get an interview even from places hiring! I havent had an interview in a month and its insane. I am finally getting partial unemployment because I am still working but its not much and I am in the week waiting period and need the small amount badly. So yeah i would say we are very affected by it. Bring back jobs! Please!?

Same situation with me. I have been jobless for around 3 months now. Its getting harder and harder to meet expenses what with just my husband earning to some extent. I am very much thankful that at least hes earning. I havent got any interview calls in these 3 months and its really depressing. Even I have kept my options open and am ready to switch careers if needed, but there are absolutely no opportunities!!

I am one of the unfortunate people who have been affected by the recession. I was a PA until i got made redundant at the end of Feb. It took me 1 month to get a job which is still my current job which I find boring and very easy, but I keep sticking to it because I need the money. This job how-ever is only part time, so I don't have much pay packet at the end of each month but I am grateful that it is better than nothing. Im keeping my options open and am constantly on the look out for new jobs but people are not recruiting staff unfortunately.

Yes, actually just be thankful you have at least got something to keep you going! People have lost their jobs and are deep into debt and they arent getting another job to meet their expenses. Really a difficult time and we all need to keep our options open. The demand-supply ratio is not in our favour!! :)

Personally its been rough on my whole family and everyone I know... In my personal situation it has made public program basically no existing.. I have a physical disablity and trying to rasie my three year old son without being able to get a job. My boyfriend has been a truck driver for over 21 years, he was fired because of a disagreement.. it took him six months to find a job, which he had to go into the leasing program. This means basically he had to buy a job... My sister has been one of the lucky ones, she works for a factory, were there really has not had any cuts... My exhusband was laid off from his job right before christmas, and has not found a new job yet.. He was in factory work also.. The Recession is affecting all walks of life, not just these CEOs of major companies... What about the little man?

God! That must be really hard on you! Hey why not try working online, like some part time job which you would be able to do at home on your computer. Of course there are very few job opportunities, but please do try and do not lose hopes. Good times will soon be back. Have a nice day!

I'm sorry to hear about that...it's true, people are losing their jobs due to the recession....we're still blessed because we haven't felt how bad the recession is; for one, we still have our jobs and can still afford some life's luxuries, although we are still saving, just like before....we'll never know what the future is in store for us..no plans of switching careers since jobs are scarce now...

I am happy that you are in a safe position! I hope and pray that you never face th heat of recession. Its very true that switching careers is not an option for those already in their job. For those who have lost their jobs, they are even giving a thought to changing their career streams, though still there's a lot of job scarcity. Anyways Good luck and have a nice day!

I'm not really affected by the recession since I'm just a student but most of my acquaintances have been affected by recession especially those who are working abroad. I just hope this would end soon because I really don't want to experience it when I graduate which is just one year from now.

Well, I hope so too that it ends soon and does not pose problems for young graduates like you :) Best luck!

i have been hit really badly by the recession like most people in the UK. I have lost my job due to unemployment increasing as companies closing down branches. Due to a lack of money iv had to change my shopping patterns and get rid of luxuries like my gym membership my contract on my mobile and change to pay as you go. I used to shop at Tesco i still do but i buy their value brands and have managed to do a monthly shop for just over £5. I am struggling to cope with it but i am learning from it at is shows what the essentials are and what you dont really need.

Hi chillpill, I am really sorry that you have been through all this. Since I am in a similar situation, I can understand what you are goin through! Though, dont you realise that you could still survive by shopping only for 5GBP!! If this realisation had ocurred before, people like us shopaholics would have managed to save a lot more than what we have now. Anyway this is a lesson for us. Situation will definitely get better and we'all certainly see better days. Let's vow to spend wisely when we get privileged again in life! :)Good luck!

So far i can keep survive in this recession. But i always try my best to manage my expenses wisely. I stopped some unnecessary expenses. I also save more money for my future purpose. I think we have no more option unless being smarter to controlling our income and expenses. So far i don't have any idea for make some investment but when i have enough money i want to buy a land ground. I think it's a good investment since the land price rate always getting higher from time to time. That is a good long term investment. Have a nice day and happy mylotting.

We are living in France. We hoped not to have been affected by the recession in the UK even though France is going through a difficult time ecomically too. We lent our son in the UK a deposit for a flat just over a year ago. He moved in to his new flat and was about to complete on his old one. Because of a mistake by the estate agent the flat had to be revalued and as the recession was about to hit it was down valued. Anyway the consequence of this, is that he lost his buyer. He now can't sell the flat and our money is trapped in the property. He is having to find the money for two mortgages and we are struggling here in France. To complicate matters more, he has let the flat through a reputable letting agency and the tenant is not paying the rent. He has to go to court in two weeks time. It has been a very difficult time for us all. Hopefully things will improve eventually but in the meantime we are taking one day at a time.
