I had a small aquarium with some gold fish.I happened to get myself a big aquarium.Someone suggested Oscar fish. I was keen as its supposed to respond like a dog.I loved that. Anyone who has any ideas about the care and the feeding and your experience with aquarium fish please share it with me.Thank you.

Yes you are very correct about the feeding.Initially I found it very tough to be cleaning the tank often.Luckily now there pumps available which recycle the water and they help to keep the tank clean. You do no have to even change the water. This is so good or else its a pain. The water is always fresh and clean.

Yeah Oscars are messy , I used two big filters & and under the gravel filter & i've never had to clean the tank. Good filtration is well worth the money!!!

Hi biggerb, as an aquarium owner and pet shop worker I can offer you a little bit of my experience. I have been keeping aquariums for over 25 years and while they may seem a bit troublesum at first they can be a thing of beauty. My first question to you would be how large of an aquarium you have now and do you have a heater, hood and proper filter for it? Second would be what type of fish are you really interested in. The oscar is a good fish, but it can be a turn off for some as it prefers a live diet, usually gold fish or minnows. I had a cousin who had an oscar that would eat very small mice, of course his Red Oscar was hugh, one of the biggest I have ever seen. It was kept in a 200 gallon aquarium. If you are looking for colorful and lively fish, I recommend African cichlids. They are usually very easy to keep and most pet shops have a variety to chose from. Some can be a bit aggresive and like the oscar my require a live diet to keep them in top heatlh. As for their care as long as you do your monthly ten percent or sometimes slightly more water changes and as I recommend to my customer to keep a small amount of aquarium salt in the tank. This helps to keep the fish health as there is always a small amount of dissolved salt in river, lakes, and streams. I also recommend a good size pleco or two in the tank to help keep the algae down. Hope you found this helpful and if I can be of further assitance please feel free to ask.
