People are lonely because they build walls instead of bridges

In this age of materialism, people have become self-centered, self-absorbed, insensitive, indifferent and even desensitised to the sufferings of other people. They are only interested in their self-interest and vested interest. The feelings of others mean them nothing. Material comforts have dissociated from other people. The stronger and taller their palaces, buildings or houses, the farther they are from the people. How do you comment on this?

I agree with this for the most part, however, I think it is unfair to say that everyone is this way. I also believe that since people have been hit so hard in the US by the recession, some people are thinking about more important things and starting to relize that there are more important things out there besides money and hip clothes.
I really don't think that we are to be blamed for all of the self absorption. When you consider the media and rap music, for instance, it makes people feel like you have to be this or that to be anyone. It is actually very sad. Also, once things like Myspace and Facebook became popular, these also make people more self absorbed because you put yourself out there and think about how you look in pics and people want to post pics of themselves and blah blah...it is really silly and does not help. OH and look at these model shows and all the reality TV crap, this is so bad for America. It really does make rasing and non-materialistic child harder when so much is banked on how cool you are...ugh, it is sick, but there are many who are really not this way ;)
