How has the economy changed the way you manage your money?

We are all experiencing, in some way or another, this economic hurricane which doesn't seem to get any better. There are days when the stock market is doing well, and days when I wonder if it will get any better soon. Many people I know, including myself, have modified their spending habits as well as their wkly budget. Even though I know it's a bad decision, I decided to stop contributing to my retirement plan and instead deposit the funds into a savings account. It bothers me that I had to make this drastic decision but when this financial crisis emerged, it made me realize that in addition to having a retirement account, I should have a regular savings account for emergencies. How has the economy changed the way you manage your money? Did you have to sacrifice anything because of the economy? Have you modified your expenses and how are you coping?
