Random things often happen to me, especially at Wal Mart

I was looking all over for an item that used to be in one place, but no longer was there. I thought it might be with baby things, so I headed to Health and beauty to look, but as I peeped around the corner where the vitamins were, a woman says to me, "What is vitamin D?" I explained as best I could, looked at her note from the doctor, who wanted her to take some supplements and we chatted a bit. I have had people say, "You always have that 'talk to me' look on your face" and I guess it is true. This is not the first time something like this has happened. Does anything like this happen to you in any store"

Its because your a nice lady and it shows. People talk to me in the stores too, but then I talk to them too. The way I see it, a stranger is just a friend that you haven't met yet.

Well thanks, friends. I am careful to not pick up with strangers in a risky type of situation. I do not mind in the store. It feels safe.

I agree with you 100%. I still think we need to be more careful, though. There's a lot of crazy people in this world! Kathy.

You worked in the public for many years, so I can see where you would get your sociability.

Where did you used to work? I've worked at several jobs, myself. My first job was at the credit bureau, which my daddy owned, as a file clerk. I also worked as a secretary/receptionist in his insurance office off and on when he was living. I also sold Avon for six years. I have also worked as a motel front desk clerk, a nurse's aid, a nail technician, a hostess in a restaurant. I also ran a bookstore from 1984 to 1986. That was probably my favorite job of all. I enjoyed having my own business. We didn't make a profit, though, so we had to go out of business. I say "we" because I had two girls working for me part-time. I really miss that. Now, I just volunteer at different places.Kathy.

That happens to me quite often and under many circumstances not just in stores. I was told it was because I "seemed" to look confident and knew what I was doing. I am not sure how true that is but I have noticed some people go around with a lost or unsure look on their faces.

I think I have that look about me also. People ask me things in the store also. I try to help them if possible too.

It doesn't cost anything to help someone and it feels good when we are successful. By the way, a store cashier knew where things were that I could not find. There was no one working the floor it seems.

well, when I pile 40+ lbs of cat food in my cart, people do ask if I have cats

I would be tempted to say no it is just bait for the mouse traps. I have seen a few people really pile in one type of item or another. Pet food is one that people tend to stock up on. I bet forty pounds is not stocking up for you, just mandatory for a day or two of food.

Have not seen you around in ages, Marsha. I do end up talking all the time, but the complete faith that people place in me, a stranger, to help them shop astounds me. Hubby says I have a "master of shopping" degree.

This is funny!A master of shopping degree, LOL! I like to talk, too, if I can think of anything to talk about. You must have a friendly look on your face. I tend to smile a lot, myself. I'm not ashamed of this habit, though. I've forgotten what that saying is but it says "a smile is something all languages understand".Kathy.

Good morning, GardenGerty....maybe you should become a WalMart greeter! LOL! Be proud...you obviously emit a warm, gregarious ...open aura, and sensitive people pick up on that! When I was more amongst the Public (when I owned my Marina/Fuel/Grocery Store) for some odd reason people were able to ferret me out with questions & problems, and their comment always was.."it just seemed/looked like you could help." You must be a very vibrant person...and it shows! Congrats! PS..Have not forgotten about your Chocolate Cake in a mug...!

There have been things that have happened that make me want to just be a professional shopper. Unfortunately, I need the income I have from my current job, and I do not think Wal Mart would pay me to do it. I have other stories from over the years about stuff like this.

I think that I need both of you...when I go shopping at Walmart! I so seldom, get off this Island to go shopping...and always when I get to Walmart, they have completely changed the store...AGAIN! Due to Ferry time constraints, I always get frustrated when I can't find the things on my list...and can never find anyone to ask! I NEED YOU BOTH...AT WALMART! Then I would be a truly happy shopper! Cheers!

I've always thought that I would like to be a Walmart greeter. I have tried several times but it's very hard to get on at the Walmart here in Jasper.I don't give up. I don't want anything that's going to affect my SSI check in any way. Kathy.

People used to always talk to me in the Walmart. But mostly cause I wore a green vest over my blouse. And, I guess somehow they got confused and mistook me for a Walmart employee, though I don't see how. Walmart employees wear royal blue vests, not green. Guess everyone in Walmart is color blind or at least the ones who were talking to me.

WalMart Lawn and Garden employees wore green vests in the spring and summer. That is where that came from. now they do not wear vests, they wear navy blue shirts and khaki pants, although you actually see all shades of blue over all shades of tan and brown.

My Mother would get all kinds of questions from total strangers. Esp. after her hair went all white. A guy asked her how to know pork from beef from just looking at a package because one place just had prices and nothing else on the labels. So she told him that pork is lighter colored than beef. That's the one that sticks out in my mind the best. But there were many, many other times.

I have grey hair, more striped and salt and pepper. I have always been treated this way in stores though. I was told it was my face. I do not even think I smile that much. Hmmmm.

People talk to me all the time, just like that situation you mentioned. I talk to others, too. Human contact is important. A lot of people have none except when they go to the store or the doctor so they tend to be chatty. That's okay with me, I'm one of those! I'm also very happy to help anyone who needs it.

Very good comment, people need human contact and do not get except in those types of situations. This woman obviously did not want to "bother" her doctor with her questions. Too bad, I know him and he is a very kind man.

Yes it happens to me, I must look like i know what I'm doing. Poor people that think that. I'm not aware of knowing anymore than anyone else. I will speak up when I see someone searching the store for something, and then often I can help, there is a hugh shortage of Wal Mart help to answer these questions. I guess that helps keep the prices down.

Even when there is help, they often tell you "I don't know", and not, "let me help you". If the pharmacy had still been open, she would have been able to ask there. I was rewarded by a cashier who actually took me to find the product I wanted and had not been able to find, because I was honest when she asked if I had found everything I was looking for.

Sometimes. I don't mean this to brag but I've been told that I'm very friendly. I tend to speak to people whether I know them or not. I realize I need to be more careful, though. There's a lot of meanness going on. I think being friendly is good as long as we know where to draw the line. What I mean is, if I think this person looks like a weirdo, I wouldn't talk to him/her. If this person appears like they need some help trying to find something, like it appears this lady who talked to you did, I would be glad to help them if I could and if they looked all right and if they didn't look like they might be up to something. There have been quite a few crimes that have happened at the Walmart here in Jasper. It's always good to be cautious. Kathy.

It is scary to think you have a lot of weird things happening in your Wal Mart. I spend too much time in Wal Mart. I mostly feel friendly and positive toward everyone, including the weirdos. I work with people who might be classed like that.

There have been a lot of scam artists at the Walmart here in Jasper, especially around Christmastime. You have to be so careful because people will pick pocket you and I don't know what all. Kathy.

I have people talking to me on the street when I walk my dogs. Sometimes it can turn into long conversation. I chat with sales people very often, but seldom with customers.

Most of the time salespeople are no where to be found. That may be why people ask me for help. My husband likes to talk with people walking dogs.

People who walk their dog's are either friendly, or want to be approached, usually because they are shy, in my experience.

I must have something about me that makes people think I know where everything is. This happens to me sometimes, but the more common thing that happens is that I get asked if I can get something for someone that is always on the top shelf. I will always get whatever it is for whoever asked.

Lots of times when I am out I'll talk to people like in a store or especially in a restraunt. If I'm in a particular section of a store and can't find something I am looking for if there is another person standing there I'll just come right out and ask if they have seen the thing that I'm looking for. Sometimes this leads to conversations where we talk about the way we don't like the way things have been re-arranged in the store or talk about how we don't like it if things aren't carried by that store anymore. Sometimes I get suggestions from people about other things to use instead of the thing that I'm looking for and then I end up learning something. If we go out to eat there always seems to be a conversation going on around where we are sitting and then we end up asking a question about something interesting they were talking to people about and end up having a whole conversation until our table is ready. I guess I'm just a natural born talker and tend to gravitate toward people who are the same way. In a lot of ways it has been a really good thing for me to be that way because I have met some really interesting people and learned a lot of things I would have never known about if I wasn't open in that way towards others.

LOL people tend to ask me things often although I am sure that I keep to myself. I don't shop often now other than for groceries but when I did people did tend to ask me things. The funny part is that I'm not really into talking, but people do tend to ask me things anyway.

Yes, I think I must have that look too. People always start talking to me. Actually when my son is with me he starts talking to people all the time. But when I am alone, people always talk to me. I am not just talking about men, which sometimes happens, but a lot of time women, usually older women, but sometimes women my own age. Usually not younger ones though.

Yes its true , some people really have that urging and attractive look that make people around them to talk something . With attractive i don't mean beautiful but some kind of force . I have one friend of mine and i have noticed that whenever we are out together i find at least two or three unknown people chatting with her . They just pop from any place and just start asking her . She was pretty no doubt , but i got other pretty friends too but nothing happens with them . I also made a note that people who have born with the sunsign "Scorpio or Cancer " usually have this attractive personality . Are you also Scorpio or cancerian ?
