I know it would be impossible with tech. as it stands now but should we be trying to find a way for kids not to be web masters? Not that they can't but is it in their best interest ? Kids don't away think before they post and we already know once something out on the net it can't be taken back. Should kids have to take an internet course before opening a web site ? Where they would have to put in a code they would get after taking a course? Again not practial but maybe not such a bad idea.
What do you think ?

Many things are not the greatest for kids because of the dangers that lurk beyond the shadows. I would have to say that I would allow my son to have a web site, but under my supervision. I have a lot of knowledge in the tech world. Yes I would say a course about internet safety would be a good idea. Even with the knowledge it is up to the parents to make sure that their kid is following the rules. Checking up on your kids is not prying or invading personal space. But at the same time if you are going to allow your kid to put a website up of their own, make sure their ideas are not pushed aside because of this or that may be better there. There are boundaries, the kids have them and so do parents. If we dont allow our kids to have a little taste of the real world what will happen when they are out on their own, and have to make their own choices. If we put so many blockers up, curiousoity will get them.. Its just like a caged animal that has been locked up for some time. The first they will want to do is to run freely without thinking. Its hard with the fact most of our kids do or will understand better about technology, but as parents we need to keep ourselves informed and up to date with our kids interest!! We can not protect them if we, ourselves are unaware of the dangers lurking in the shadows.

I agree it is kids do need to taste the real world but how much of a taste is a trick and at what age. To me a teen should get more real world experience than a kid under ten. Web master have been known to be ten and under, mixing freely with adults as well as kids their own age. It would be nice if they could have their web site in a kid's net ( a part of the web for them only ) They could get their freedom and be more protected.

That would be a great idea to have a part of the internet that was deciated to children. The only problem with that is; forming an area that is just for child can also be an invation for those creeps that like to abuise children.. Wonder if there would be a way to make it happen for children without the fears of strangers messing with our children. It would be even better if adults would just get the picture that children are untouchable and leave them alone!!

I think it would be fine for kids to create their own websites depending on content. A course isn't necessary unless they want to create the website from scratch using HTML and CSS or even Java. There are some great free tutorials online for this though. I think the best bet is just to go to a free website that allows you to use their tools to create a site easily. Or even just make a blog. It all depends on their parents and what kind of skills the child has on the computer.

The course I had in mind was more about the content than the tech. aspect. A lot of kids make website without parents knowlege and it is so easy for them to make a site put pics. and video on it that they might regret or get them in trouble later. After all things can't be taken back.

When I was 7 or 8, and my older sister was 10 or 11 (way back when - I'm 18 now and she's 21), we made a Christina Aguilera fan page (lol - I know, right? How funny). We used a Geocities template and did it just for fun and to cure our own boredom (and showcase our obsession with Christina and her music!). There was absolutely no harm in it; it was just for fun. We were smart kids; we knew that our parents didn't want us to give out our information to strangers or anything like that.
I think it's important for parents to allow their kids to do what they'd like online (within reason, that is) but to EDUCATE them about all of the harmful things on the web and safety issues (not giving out information, not going to certain sites, and so on).

As you are older now you can look at it from another angle. Say you went to a site, and thought it was run by someone your age. They start a discussion about ( let's say drinking but they didn't specify what kind of drink they ment water vs soda you though al.or no al. ) anyway you post and find yourself in an adult conversation with a 7 year old.

why not, especially for the kids who is anti-social!nowadays lot's of these kids not just open their own website for fun,but also to make extra cash!some of them, even become millionaire!so,parents have no need any worry to find way making extra cash for their children's expenses!if this hobby also been denied because worry about the they write wrong tings in the net,how these kids will grown up!another alternative, well, try to install the parent guide software to block kids from using the unappropriated words and always stick with the kids whenever kids are using internet!we shouldn't block their creativity because worry of simple things!

I don't believe that anti-social kids benifit from the internet. It help them escape from their issue instead of dealing with them. I am not for blocking kids creativity but instead preparing them for it. Making money on the net may change if new laws are issued ( such as taxing it has been suggested, and new laws regulating picture's of kids ) if the child is not properpared and the parent are not watching the child could be arrested. Think of all the kid's would found them self procuted for downloading music not long ago.

I entered my child into a baby photo contest. It wasn't real. It was based on who had the most votes. She came in 3rd. One of her prizes was her own website. I and my husband talked about it and we were not comfortable with her having her own site. Their are to many crazies out there.

I agree they have the talent for it but what about the maturity and thick skin when someone flames them. Or how to hand becoming a web celb. I think it would also be a good idea if they know who to contact if they get stalked on their site. I'm not really wanting them not to just want to make sure they may be a little more prepared. I have seen a few have really bad experiences because of to much exposer and no way of knowing how to handle it.
