Greeting Cards - Do you still send Greeting Cards?
Philippines

Hi fellow mylotters. I just want to ask you guys if do you still use Greeting Cards to greet your friends and family? or do you just send them text messages or maybe send them e-mail greetings?Nowadays, with our technology, I think most of the people are just sending their greetings via text message or via e-mail. But for me, sometimes I used Greeting Cards to greet my friends and family on certain occasions. I think they will appreciate it more to receive Greeting Cards than a text message or an e-mail. But I guess many of us here are not using Greeting Cards nowadays. I wonder is the greeting cards old fashioned? or it is still widely used?

I have always thought that greeting cards are a bit pointless. I would see no problem with sending somebody a text message or email, it would save a lot more resources. Lets be honest they normally end up in the bin a day or 2 later.

Good point. I was putting greeting cards in the recycle bin (unless they are from my kids or husband), but now keep them in a craft box where the pictures can be cut out and used for crafts.

I will say that I had not send a greeting card to my friends in years. I will usually send text message to people. However, I do have a close friend who do still mail me greeting cards over the years to my address. I feel happy to receive it, but I admit that I'm not those who send out greeting cards in return. I do not think that greeting cards are old-fashioned. It is just that I'm too lazy to buy and post it to my friends... I think the popularity of greeting cards had dropped a lot over the years. I still remember in my school days, most of us will send greeting cards to each other during birthdays and during festive celebrations. Nowadays, most people will send text message to send their greetings only...

Hi there. I have also a friend who until now is sending me birthday greeting cards. Like you, when I received it, I feel happy and excited. She also send me personalized greeting cards in which she herself makes the cards. But sometimes I forgot to send her greeting cards so I just greeted her in Friendster and just send her text messages. But likewise I still send her greeting cards often. Thanks for sharing....;o)

Hi, It's really rare that someone sends out personalized greeting cards. You must be a special friend of hers. I think she should be fine even though you do not send her greeting cards in return. Do treasure your friendship with her... Happy mylotting.

Hi, Yes, she is one of my special friend way back in our Elementary Days. She is one year older than me. Since we moved to a city, we rarely see each other, but we still have communication with each other via phone calls and text messaging. Surely, I will treasure my friendship with her as always. But I make it a point to send her greeting cards without any occasion, just to say hi and missing her. Thanks ;o)

I always send greeting cards or e-cards to my friends and family, which I make myself. I send them mostly for birthdays and some holidays like Christmas.

I still send greeting cards, and i still receive them....I do not have a cell phone so i can not send a text message, and i know a lot of people that do not use a computer. I do not think that it is old fashioned to send a greeting card, I still think that it is more personal to pick out a card and send it.

hi there, yes, sending greeting cards are being used these days, but i think not like before. I think it also depends to whom you will send the greetings. Just like what I said before, you can categorize your friends in what type of greetings will you send him/her. But I think for most of us here, it is preferred to send greeting cards to your immediate family members and closest friends. Thanks for sharing...;o)

Yes Greeting cards are still used by me because I still consider that greeting card convey more than just sms or emails. They show more affection to whom you are giving. People may consider it to be old fashioned but still since greeting cards are being sold makes a statement that they are liked by people! We share same though on greeting cards!! Happy Mylotting!

Hi Balasri, I guess most of the people send greeting cards nowadays via text message or via e-mail, I think they are more convenient and easy to use and besides it is much cheaper that sending greeting cards. Greeting cards has a fee of postage and I think some people don't want to pay so much. But, in my opinion, sending greeting cards is still the best way to greet your family & friends. I'm sure the receiver of those will be happy to receive one from yours. But with the fast pacing of our technology, most people use text message and e-mail. But whatever ways you choose, the thing is you remember them. Thanks for sharing...;o)

I used to send greeting cards but not any more since two years back. I change to send picture message and e-card through mail as I think it more easily. I don't think greeting cards are old fashioned but just imagine if everyone is still sending greeting cards and there will be a lot of "rubbish" after the occasions as I think most people will just throw away the cards.

Hi Lynn, Yes, sending picture messages and e-card are much easier than sending greeting cards. I think different people has their own opinions and yes, some people don't like to retain cards, but others still keep it. But I guess the saying is true, :it's the thought that counts". Thanks for sharing....;o)

For special people and for special reasons I send cards through the mail. It says more than whatever the card is saying... it says that you put thought, time and money into it which translates into "I care about you". Of course, the United States Postal Service isn't doing their part to keep this form of greeting cards going! The rate just went up again to 44 cents for one first-class postage stamp. At Christmas time, I mail out cards to everyone if I know I won't be seeing them, but hand them out to the people who come to my house or if I know I'll be going to their homes during the holidays. It saves a chunk of change every year!

In Canada the postage rate is .53c or more (I think it went up again - we have generic stamps with no value on them so that when the price goes up we can still use the old stamps).

hi there. yes, during Christmas Seasons, I do it also, handing cards personally or I just tie it along the presents. yes, it saves more. but when I canno't see them I make it a point to send one to them. And to all my other friends, I usually send them greetings through e-mail and text messages. thanks for sharing....;o)

I don't send greeting cards anymore because people believed it's already obsolete, so I just send text messages, emails and posts (in friendster and facebook)to my friends and love ones. Many years ago, I never fail in sending greeting cards to the people closest to me but as modern technology slowly taking place, I choose to just send text and email messages.

Hi Jlamela, Yes, many people nowadays send text messages and post birthday greetings to their Friendster or Facebbok Accounts. I think it is better than not to remember them at all. Thanks for sharing .....;o)

On special occasion like Christmas and Birthdays, i still prefer to send greeting cards. It appeared as more personal to the receiver especially, to my family and close friends. I want them to know that i still care for them even though i had moved to another town. I only send email greetings to my colleagues and new friends..

I send a combination of them all but I don't send as many cards through the regular mail as I used to. It is more convenient to send electronic greetings and I just don't send as many greetings period. It's usually a time thing.

I do still send greeting cards to like my grandma and other members of my family. I am about to go pick up one for my boyfriend just for the heck of it. I love him dearly and I think a little card saying so with a handwritten note will help him see how much he means to me.

I send real cards to my family for their birthdays and of course for weddings/graduations things we get invited to I use real cards that I make myself (one of my hobbies). I don't text for that reason, only for info. I used to send email cards but now I don't have time to look at all of them and make a decision. I just spent too much time looking.

Yes cards are still being sent through postal mail or delivered in person by the recipient. I like this method far above the other method which is to send it through the internet. I think it's much more personal and much more appreciated.

Yes also not everyone has a computer and can not receive the cards without it, some people don't have an email either. So sending it through the postal mail ensures the person gets it, and postal mail offers insurance as well so that if it gets lost or stolen it can be tracked and reported! Of course, this is more for packages and not mail.

Yes. I definately still send greeting cards. I think they are much more personal and they send a different message. To me, sending a greeting card over an email or text shows that you put alot more time and thought into your card and it definately shows that you care alot more.

I still like getting cards for people. I think it shows that you really thought about them, not just a last minute "oh shoot! I should send a text..." It just takes a little more effort to go get a card and write something personal in it. I also try to get the funny ones so the person can get a little laugh as well.

Hi Harmonee, Yes, it is a happy felling to receive cards from the people who cares for you.Because we all know the efforts made on how the cards are being sent to you/us. Yes, there are lots of cards these days, just like you said they have funny cards as well. Sometimes cards has a different language also.Like herein the Philippines, I have seen cards written in our native language also. So from time to time, cards have been improving today. Thanks for sharing....;o)
