I think this holds true for some cases but not all. You have to want to learn and be more clever and age does not make a difference. I know more than some older people because I have been through more and wanted to learn more.

Your question is about being "clever", which connotes being quick to understand and learn (and apply what was learned). So age doesn't determine cleverness. You can be older but dumb or you can be younger but witty. It really depends on the person. Maybe, it's more appropriate to describe older people as generally having more "wisdom" (on at least one particular aspect of life) compared to younger people.

Hi fwangaa, These days young people thinks they know it all but you know older people have been there and done all the things that the young people are doing now, so I know that older people are right in many things they say as they are older and wiser. Tamara

no i think your wrong, just because there older doesn't mean they know what there talking about or the entire story. i take it with this view that your asian! also older people like to think they know everythin and dont tend to admit when they dont. i generally will tlk to people my age ask a older person about a topic if i know they know anything about it. If they dont then there is no point in asking them.

I feel that sometimes, the older people can be much clever than the younger people.Because, they may have gone through more than us and know more of the things in life that we does. And i will believe a older person words as it is equal to us listening to our grandparents words.

I think it is a wrong view to judge clever people by their ages. usually, the elder have many experiences than the young people. Sometimes they have false views on some events and some of them accept new things very slowly. However, the young should listen to the views about the living experience of the elder. They can solve the concrete problem through thinking over it. I think when coming across the difficult problem, we should believe the elder's warning and their suggestions.

Just because they are older, doesn't make them smarter. They will have more life experience, but that life may be pretty empty in cleverness. I know lots of clever young folks, but they don't know much about life experience, but they are smart.

i think experience should be your basis whether a person is more clever than the other. i dont know. there are some old people that i have met who are quite dumb and some young ones that are exceptionally clever. but about believing a younger person's words or an older's, i think i believe both of them. i dont know. i always have this tendency to weigh what people say. i tend to look on other angles as to how a certain person comes up with what he/she said...

In my experiences the older people that I know are extremely clever. I love going to them when I have an issue that is perplexing me to hear their thoughts and opinions. I have a couple of friends that are younger than me. One of them is extremely clever, since he has made it a habit to learn from the mistakes of others rathter than making a bunch of mistakes himself. My other younger friend is still gettting the bumps and bruises that come from making mistakes in this life. I hope she will learn from some of the things she is taking herself through. One would hope that someone that has been on this earth for a long time would have learned a thing or two. There is nothing sadder than an old fool.
