Hello. I have only recently started posting to this site, but i think i have spotted something i wasnt expecting.
When i started posting here, i just thought that mylot would be full of people posting random stuff to make a little bit of money for their back pockets. But when i got posting, i realised that this is not exactly true. Alot of the posts on this website are pretty sensitive, and people seem to come here to talk about thier life problems.
Okay, so the best reason for this is that the majority of people on this site stay annonymous, and its pretty easy to talk to people over the internet.
Okay, so down to the job that is being lost. The simple answer is councellors. One of my aims in life is to become a counceller so i could help other people solve problems, and i am a good listener. That is the main reason why i love this site so much, and im not really that bothered about the money i am earning, its just nice for the little extra cash to be honest.
By the way, this is only really a joke, its not really taking concellors jobs, they are always going to be wanted at some point.
..Opinions? views? responses???...
Happy mylottingggg, Sprakie..

lol, I kind of thought this is how it works, coz when you post serious subjects people usually overlook it or worse ignore them and look for topics that interests them, topics in which they can relate to and respond to, kind of like the way friends do... Most of the posts i see are so simple like but they get enough response from them coz its easier to weave ideas from simple things. Which is why i just choose to reply and not post at all, its harder to begin a topic and hope people will love to talk about them, lol...

At some point, mylot is stealing my real job. lol.
Not exactly what you mean but in a way that I am supposed to be concentrating with my job alone but I always peek at mylot and make some postings which leaves me little time to do my job. tsk!
I agree to you that people come back here and make this little site their portal to air out their life and people here is ready to listen.

I wouldn't worry about your career choice being taken away by an online message board. Look at anything across the internet, this is in no way the first website to allow people a source for personal venting. With a population of under 200,000 people worldwide, mylot really doesn't even that have that huge of a fan base that could allow it to make an economic impact. More often than not, the types of issues that people vent about over the internet are fare different than the kinds of issues that one would need to see a counselor or a mental health professional about. I would say just enjoy the ability to talk to others, get a feel for how to respond to those in need, and don't worry. Your career choice is definitely safe.

I wouldn't say it is exactly like a counselor's job 100%, but there are the advices here and the basic understanding and caring for one another. If a real professional therapist, the service is mainly one to one and more in-depth. Here, we only read skeletal issues, and even though there are deep problems, it's more like talking to friends to share problems, in my opinion. In a way, whenever I answer discussion that are of sensitive nature, or those seeking opinions, I treat myself as their friend. But perhaps you have interpreted it in a counselor's way, that's also cool. However, I think the market for therapist is still in needed right now and will always be. That is more discreet and like I have said, on a one to one basis.

I think that going online and talking anonymously or posting anonymously, blogging anonymously or any other way of communicating online besides typing can be very good, and very counseling like. I do know you were joking as you have said, so I don't feel I need to comment on how it really isn't taking jobs. I'm sure though that in this economy people are finding different ways to cope without using counselors, although then again counselors may be making more then they had before! Good luck on your career choice!

I know that I have used myLot to take a poll on minor issues that have come up in my life. It is cool to get such a range of views and it is really nice to get viewpoints that I hadn't considered before. Any serious problems that I have had I am able to talk to people close to me. It never even occurs to me to air anything overly personal on the internet. Anyone that truly needs some help would be wary of taking advice from some random stranger on a social website. Counselors jobs aren't in any danger.
