So I've just had a power cut for about 4 or 5 hours. I'ver been able to use my laptop as it has battery. No television. Which leads me to this random question.
Dont you wish your television had a battery?
These days tellys should be made with batterys in, so that when you do have a power cut your able to run it without the aid of electric.
Is there such a telly that exsists??
If not.. Why not??

You can actually buy battery back up systems for things like your television or refrigerator. That way when the electric goes out, you dont have to worry about them being shut off.
I actually dont mind the television not working when the electricity is out. I dont watch it often anyway!
My laptop is a couple of years old and the battery doesnt hold charge very long anymore. So if we dont have electricity, we cant do much on the computer either because we dont have much time!
In some ways, I dont mind the electricity being out at all. If my husband and I are both home, it is good time to spend with each other. When we dont have the option for tv or computer, we will often play card games or just cuddle on the couch and talk. I do love those times!

hi hyper musician bells,
A power cut of 4 or 5 hours? is it all, welcome to third world countries and you would find it daily atleast this much and even your batteries donot get enough time to charge. In New Delhi India we have what we call inverter. It is just like generator only difference is it has battery and would be charged when power comes back and it connects to all points of your home and you have electricity so our TV set, computer and lights, fans all can run on it and depends on how big and how many batteries your inverter is. Our home has a single battery inverter and it runs up to 5 hours depending on how many appliances we are using when there is power cut.

I like the idea, but wonder whether it wouldn't be better just to have a UPS for a the whole house. You can get a UPS for a computer obviously, but to have something connected to the house like a UPS or a backup power generator that supplied power for a few hours in case of a power cut would be very helpful.
I suppose solar panelling is one option in places with sufficient sunshine, not so much here in England though :-)

Dear O Dear, ask me about power cuts, we have massive load shedding drives in here. Lets talk aboout today, we didn't have power from morning 9 till 5 30 in the eve. it is so damn frustrating. It is hot , it is humid then there are piles of work assigned on me which has some very serious deadlines or else I have to face serioous consequences. God!!
I hate this power vut stuff, as per your question to answer I would say that there shouldn't be any power cut in the first place.
Cheers to life.

there are ways that u can stop depending on power company, all you need is a solar panel with a large enough device to store power. you should see how people in india where electricity was originated lives. more than 50% of india still dont have electricity. so a few hours of electricity is not an abnormal thing so you should be happy you have outage for just a few hours and not a couple of days. good luck and hope that there is no cut again.

All good answers above. I was going to say a back-up generator is awesome if you can afford it. Depending on the storms in your area it can be a good investment. I also have an old B&W battery powered tv which is great for keeping an eye on the storms when the power is down, but it would be nice to have an option on newer tvs that included a battery back-up. As technology improves and our tvs do more for us, companies might want to consider it!

My phone has a built - in television, will that count? I like the TV feature of my phone very much since I don't miss my favorite TV shows even if I am at work. My superiors doesn't care much what we are doing at our desk as long as we do our work properly so I can watch TV during available time. Since it is in a cellphone, I can carry it wherever I want. Yes, it would be really nice if our home TV has a spare battery they can use in case electricity is cut off. Our main source of information is TV and very seldom we use radio. Without TV, I wonder where we will get our information about what's happening.

They do exist and we have one. Since we live in south Florida where hurricanes and tropical storms regularly pass by, this is something we've had since we moved here six years ago. I don't think it's going to do us any good now though since everything went digital and I don't know if they have a battery powered converter box on the market yet. But, if they do, we'll buy one.

I think you can buy battery for telly and karaoke but it lot bigger than the ordinary AAA orAA battery.
But when you have a power cut, just let it be just enjoy the silent for few minutes. But it would not be funny when you have power cut during night time in the middle of your dinner.

Ya power cuts ain't new where I live. But we have inverters installed at our home, that means whenever there's a power cut, the whole house is run on a battery which charges whenever there's power and discharges during power cuts. They are called Load shedding...
We do run our tv and pc on the battery. It takes that much load but heating appliances like iron and are to heavy for those batteries...
TV with a separate battery is a great idea though...
