Women, ever had a colposcopy done?

I have an appointment to get one done in a few weeks. My pap's always come back abnormal, so they are doing one of these procedures to see what is going on. They claim it does not hurt, but I wonder. Ever had one done?

I've never had a colposcopy done, but just reading about your experience made me wince a bit. The only thing I've had done were a couple of (painful) pelvic exams, and those were roughly 10-12 years ago. Now I'm thinking it's about time for me to have a Pap smear, since I'm reaching that age where I need to start having them done. :(

My sister had one. She was 24 when she had one. The worst part for her was drinking the stuff that made you empty your, well, you know. They put her to sleep, but she woke up in the middle of it. She felt a lot of pressure, but then they put her right back under. She woke up and was fine. They found two polyps, but they were just polyps, and once they were removed, she was back to normal.

You are thinking colonoscopy not colposcopy I think. This one is the female kind of test.

I have had one. Along with a biopsy. It was the biopsy that was momentarily uncomfortable. After having it done, they found I needed surgery. Which I had, and 2 decades (yikes) later, I am glad I did. I am healthier for it.

I finally stopped putting mine off after getting yelled at by family for a long time about it.

I'm sorry that you have had an abnormal pap smear. I am glad tha you are having this done. I always hate these examinations and try to get something from the doctor to settle me down and have a friend with me to drive me home. It is easier if you are relaxed. If you ask a male doctor about anything - lilke childbirth - they always say that it does not hurt. What do they know? This is why I have a female guynaecologist. In this case it does not hurt - just a little pressure. anyway, ask you doctor for a happy pill and take that to relax you about 15 - 20 minutes berfore the examination. Good luck.

Heyya lilybug! I have never had one done but one of my best friends has to have one done ever so often. Her paps always come back abnormal. She told me it is uncomfortable but not intolerable. Just try to relax because if your all tense it might be more uncomfortable. Easier said than done though..I know. Take care and good luck.

I have never had one come back normal. I just kept putting it off. Figured it is about time I did something about it.
