Do you urge your kids to get a summer job instead of doing nothing at home?

Summer is about to started, and many schools starting their summer vacation before the end of this month. Would you rather urge your kids to find a summer job, I meant high school kids, instead of doing nothing at home?

If I'll have kids I will let them do summer jobs instead of just staying at home doing nothing. It's also one way for them to earn money for themselves, and it's a big help for them since it will not only help them learn how to become responsible individuals, they will also learn to appreciate the value of money.

At this time, I am going thru this with my oldest son who will be 17 in september. I really love summer time because of the weather but when it comes to my kids being off the whole summer, it gets frustrating because they actually don't want to really do anything! I'm trying to encourage my son to fill out applications for a summer job. He says he wants a job but sometimes I wonder how bad does he want a summer job. How does he expect to even be considered for a job if he doesn't fill out an application! It's frustrating and I'm already looking forward to September where they can be in school and remain active.
