I am very curious why we need to put pineapple into salty water before we eat it. Can we eat it just after dealing with its skin and washing it?

i think because the salt neutralizes the sweetness and sourness of the pineapple.. by the way.. pineapple is a good source of fiber :)

Well, you are right, salt neutralizes the acidity of the pineapple that gives its sour taste. Some people do it because they are sensitive to the sour taste of pineapple and they feel some sting.

Hello, wangyinfeng! Well, I just eat it directly after peeling. Others put it first in salty water because some people have sensitive tongue and they feel some "sting" due to the acidity of the pineapple. They do it to remove that stinging sensation when eating. This is my response, happy mylotting and have a nice day!

I have never put salt on a pineapple before nor have I ever heard of putting salt on a pineapple before. Pineapple is very healthy and I would think that by adding salt to it that it might run up a persons blood pressure and that wouldn't be so good. My dad adds salt to his grapefruit, certain apples like granny smith, and his melons as in cantaloupe, water melons. I on the other hand never ever salt watermelon or any of my fruits. Just kinda takes the healthy part out of it.

I have never heard of putting salt on pineapple but I never understood why people put salt on watermelon before eating it either.

Hi wangyinfeng,I cannot believe anyone would destroy a wonderful healthy fruit by putting it in salty water. That is to me serious criminal "assault". (Sorry the pun was really unintentional and it only hit me as I was writing the comment.) Salt is so unhealthy, I never use it when I am cooking and never miss it.
