I have traveled by plane, by train, by bus, by ferry boat, but not a ship, a big ship. I think that from all of the transportations I have made use of, I prefer traveling by plane because it is fastest, but it is too expensive. I wish the price would drop some day.
Here is a photo I took at the airport, a plane I took on January 26, 2008, when I went to my hometown for the winter vacation on a snowstorm day. I was lucky to get back home before the snow storm arrived. You could see from the picture the heavy cloud in the sky. It was getting darker though it was before ten in the morning.
I love the feeling taking a trip by plane. Once I was above the city to a certain height of the sky, it was so different a world, with sunshine and blue sky high up there. I took a lot of photos in the plane because I love the super-blue sky there. It took me only one hour and a half to get back home, but if I took a train, it would be fourteen hours. It is such a big difference. So all in all, expensive as it is, it is worth it if you don't want to suffer from the tiring trip on a train or bus.

I have never traveled by ship. I would like to try that some day. I have been on planes and they are quick, but really not all that comfortable. You are in a small tight chair sitting very close to other people. The take off experience is cool, and it is neat to look out the window and see the land getting further and further away. But I think a ship would be nice because you would not be stuck in a seat the whole time. But since I have not experienced it I really can't say.

I have never been on a ship yet and Idon't find the idea very appealing at all. I can'r swim and have never been attracted to anything connected with it including boats and ships.
I fly regularly back and forth between Italy and UK and I have done it so often it has become like catching a bus. I am not bothered about what might happen either because I feel there are more accidents on the road than up in the sky.

Airplane would be faster. However, there have recently been some cases of plane crashes that makes me think twice about flying long-distance. But then again, this is all considered individual preference. Danger is lurking everywhere and I thought hard. I'm not going to let such things that have happened to dampen my spirit of traveling. So, I would definitely opt for the airplane in future. Good discussion here. :)

Plane definately. My MIL went on a plane last week on holiday but she was so scared that we had to talk her into believing that she would be safe.
