It's going to be Summer time here in the USA, are you going to travel? Have you come up with ways to save money and still be able to take a trip. Would you care to share and bargains you have found. We have found that if we meet at nice spot, like a camp ground we can have a nice family visit instead of traveling the full way to each others homes. We can find a spot half way and each family will save one half the trip. This may limit where we can go but I'll bet we have a good time anyway.

Hello savypat. It sounds a good idea to meet at a nice spot instead of having a full way trip to each other's homes, which is a frugal way of having a nice family visit. I am now waiting for the arrival of summer vacation when I will take a train back to my faraway hometown. I am looking forward to it and I am going to enjoy my summer vacation with my family in my hometown.

I'm so jelous at you right now. First, because you travel in the world, and second because you travel in the USA, my favorite country in the world. Ever since I was 9 years old I dreamed on traveling to the USA, and I haven't done it yet. I hope that I will do it after my army service that i'm in right now. I have still left a year and a half to my service, so I can't really go to travel in this period of time. I really need a vacation!

I'm from Israel, and i'm serving my country as a combat soldier for 3 years. In this period of time you can't leave the country without a premission from the army.

Don't you get leave from your military service every once in a while? It seems to me that our regular military people, do, just like other government workers. I didn't look at your profile to find out where you are from but I hope you get to travel soon.

Yes, summer is coming, and I am looking forward to travel to some of my favorite holiday resorts. Haven't decided on any special place yet, most probably some hill station , where it would be nice and cool and refreshing !

We have beautiful mountain areas in our state, in fact I live in the foot hills, there are many rivers and lakes so that we do not have to travel far to enjoy a cool green spot. Thanks

Hey pat! That does sound like a great plan! I wish I had some family that I could meet half way! I am planning a little trip probably in about a month, but I have to take a plane and it won't be exactly a bargain trip. I am going to see my mother in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Thankfully, she is paying for the ticket since I surely can't afford it! I will be taking one of the cheaper flights since it doesn't matter what day I fly or what day I come back. I do know that I will try to take one of the the cheaper airlines too so I can save money on the airfare!

Fortunately Summer is coming and I cannot wait. I have already booked a holiday. Im going to Paris next July. What am I doing to save money is simply easy. I am single and i dont have children or husband so for me its easier to save since I dont have my own family. What am I doing is to buy things which I necessarily need. For example I needed to buy jeans so a few weeks ago I bought 2 or 3 pairs because I was in need of them. But when I went shopping I didnt do as usual. Usually I end up buying other things that I dont need. I am also trying to save a little money in a coin box. If I encounter a 1euro or 2euro in my purse, I put in the coin box. Little things and ideas on how to save a little money but of course it depends because having an own family is different.

Ahhh yesss summer! No plans - mainly because my bf and I are broke this summer. We might drive out to Vegas or the Grand Canyon, but it's all talk at this point. As much as we'd like to "save" up for it - we couldn't. Because I got my hours reduced in my current job, and his family needed to move to a different place - thus shelling out some cash for moving and what-not. But I'm sure we'll do a weekend thing - like we always do. And we haven't seen all of Southern California - so doing the SOCAL thing will be cheaper and easier for both of us. Have fun!

there is so much to do there, if your finances are really tight you can go the zoo or the natural history museum or one of the art museums. Or just to beach. Have a good Summer

The time for me to travel came in January because it was summer time in South Africa which was my destination. I took my toddler son to Cape Town and the Garden Route. The weather was warm and sunny. We had the most excellent time seeing Table Mountain, the beaches, the penguins and going on a two and a half hour safari. I am now saving up to go on a trip to Canada in summer 2010. I hope that you will have a lovely family trip this summer and think camping would be a superb choice to keep on a low budget.

It's do really a good time to travel on Summer, I agree. But I did not save enough money for that, I am going to travel on Autumn, I think I will get enough money that time. Haha! Have a good time, Savypat.

I have been saving all of my change in jar for over a year, and there is enough money to take a small weekend vacation. A friend and I are going to a town along the Lake Michigan shore. It is about a 3 hour drive. The bargains are that the beaches are free and not crowded, there are nice inexpensive motels, and several good restaurants with easy-on-the-budget food. The scenery, the lake, and a number of other things to do are there for the taking...no additional cost. Have a fun time camping! I miss that sometimes. Karen

I already had my vacations in January. I was invited for 3 weeks to the Caribbean aboard a yatch if I could manage to buy my airticket. I´m still paying for it but I don´t mind. It was a wonderful experience. In November I´ll finish paying for it and will start thinking where to go next. In my country the summer months are from Novemberr to March (about) so even if I don´t have much money I can go to some beach in my country invited by my daughter or one of my aunts.

You can try to get the USA rail pass for under $400. You can already visit the entire USA. Its a very cheap way to visit as many states as you can. Before, they used to have North America Rail Pass which includes a travel to Canada but they have discontinued this type of pass. But USA rail is still a good way to see all of the U.S, that if you have the energy!
