I've always thought I wasn't but I just noticed something about myself - I really am. I've been responding to myLot friend's discussions and noticed I had a really high rating in a couple topics and really low in others.... Now I'm on a mission to bring my ranking up on the leader board rankings in a couple areas at least...
I'm thinking competitivness is often related to 'sports' but really it can be in all areas of our life.
So, are you competative? What area of your life do you compete against others?

I've always been very competitive when it comes to individual sports. Throughout my teen years, all I did was play softball and various other sports. My goal was to be the best athlete in whatever sport I chose. As a female, I played many sports even football and loved every minute. Didn't do this to get recognition from the boys. My primary goals were to be good and noticed.
Don't feel the need to be competitive when it comes to responding to myLot discussions or starting a discussion. The ratings really don't concern me. I might call it lack of interest lately since I've been busy with other things in my life.
Have a good weekend,

Oh since posting this last night I have really started spotting my true competitive nature - my mission this morning is figuring out what I'm doing wrong on AC and Helium - need to figure out how to get my numbers, ratings, earnings, up on those sites.

Faith....good to see you back. I hope everything turned out ok with your son.
Definitely not in sports...I am a klutz, but academically, maybe a little. I plan on returning to school this fall and since I will probably be the oldest person in the class, I intend to raise the bar. Not only do I want to get A's, I plan on blowing the curve for the whole class.
I am going to start with Bio or A&P for a nursing program...I hope I can do it.
I am downloading and watching and listening to podcasts on the subjects and reading and studying now.

3 years of Latin in High school is probably going to be an asset when it comes to the vocabulary. We will see.

Hi Hon - great to see you too, it's so good to be back online and in touch with my friends, I missed everyone horribly... I have never been into sports of any kind and looking back I think I may have been like you academically - I always expected better of myself, my biggest let down was Medical Terminology - took it twice passed both times but had to have a 3.5 to get into radiology program, I gave up after the 3.0 the second time. Wishing you the best in your classes - my brain just doesn't work the way it's required for the medical field.

I have been known to do this many times in here. I know there are many topics that I am still ranked HIGH and quite Happy with that, and then there are those that it seems like I am lowly ranked and wondering how to move up with those as well. I think sometimes it helps starting New discussions in those topics, or responding back to a lot of the discussions there, but it could still be anyone's game here as well.

Isn't that funny - I never paid attention before but now any discussion I respond to it seems I check to see where I'm ranked :( I do tend to gravitate to the ones I'm ranked higher in.

Playing catch up here lol I play a lot of games online so in a sense, I am competitive but only in that way. Hubby and I used to play a lot of board games and I was competitive in that but we don't play much of that anymore. I don't wish to win every time because everybody has to have a chance to win every now and then so I guess I'm competitive. Am I? lol

Yep that certainly does sound like your competitive - but at least you give others a chance 'now and then' :)

When I was younger, I was much more competitive than I am now. Whenever I did something I wanted to be the best. I would practice more, play harder, study longer.... The person I was most competitive with was my older brother. many of the things that I tried were things that he did. Of course, after I got involved, I was competitive with my peers.
Now, however, I am much more laid back and mostly the person I compete with is myself. I want to improve on my own abilities for my own self satisfaction, not to be better than someone else.

that's interesting - I'm finding as I get older I get more competitive where when I was younger I wasn't.

I think it truely was self-confidence that kept me from competing when I was younger - I didn't think I could win so just didn't try. I still have a little of that but here and there get these little nudges that tell me 'you can do it'

I am competitive in alot of ways, but then there are some areas of my life that I'm not. I especially notice the competing nature come out in me when I'm dealing with anything that has to do with my brothers. I feel horrible when my step dad will put down what I do in order to tell me what the boys have done lately. It just seems that no matter what I do, it isn't good enough! So I'm always trying to out do them.

oh oh that sibling rivalry :( will admit there have been times I've tried to compete with my sisters but to be honest we've been lucky because of the 3 of us each of us have a different 'strength' and now we're older we recognize that and use our strengths to help each other - look out world when the 3 of us get together :)

competition is everywhere now a days. one can not restrict it to sports only. We have competitors everywhere if we see. I have also set a target of to be on the top with quality responses and i hope i will make it but on the other hand i know that there are many others like you who would be competing with....so i think its every where....

well don't worry much from me - been almost a week since I've posted this discussion and ADD set in and I'm off to 'competing' in other areas of my life. Just never know when I'm going to swing back to doing it here so may want to stay on your toes.

i am not competitive at all. i just do my thing and do not compare it to what others are doing or what they have achieved. i have enough daily pressure on me to get things done and i do not need to be competing with anyone in the process. my son is not competitive either and in a way i think it is a good thing because he is happy within himself and with what he has and does not care to go after something just because others are. being competitive can be a good thing in sports and even on the job.

that's how I thought I was - take me as I am, I know I'm a good person with tons of talent but after last night I'm seeing more and more I really am a competitive person inside.

I am a very competative person in many ways. I love when there is a competition mainly due to the fact that it really pushes me to go where I might have not been able to go. A competition gives me an energy boost and the fact that I hate to loose really bums me out.
I think that every person should have at least a little competition in their life because it will keep him/her going forward.

Very good thought there - keeps us moving forward although I am sure there are times when compitition could have just the opposite effect and cause a person to 'give up'.

i am usually not very competitive person and if you are here you need to be very very competive person as it is very bad competition here and i love to take life easy and since i am an indian girl so i got an easy option to be a housewife and let my husband earn for the family which i plan to do. Being competitive is a full time job and if you work so hard and yet you dont get what you are working your behind off and then only find you got pipped because someone else cheated.. no sir not for me.

Yes I have no sympathy for cheaters and get upset when I see others getting ahead not by their own efforts but by cheating.

Being competitive in any aspect is more of not only showing the abilities but how you have to share them to others. I don't consider it as a race but rather the ideas that is to be shared and people to get response to as well. I do jump into these kinds of competition in my old life, but for now, its just a mere of outreaching..

That's an interesting thought - not so much competition but the reaching out, almost a 'wanting to be noticed'

I think we are all competitive. Some people just forfeit easier than others. I also compare myself to other people a lot which is sort of like a competition. I think a good question is when you are ahead, Can you pull for other people to make it too, or do you root against everyone else.

Extremely. It's in my genes, my grandpa, father, brother, uncle, my entire family on my dads side is competitive. The worst part is I am competitive in not only physically but also in academics too. Oh well, i try to control it but not matter what anybody says loosing sucks.

I am definitely NOT a competitive person. I prefer to do things for "fun" than to win. I understand that there are some healthy things that can come from competition, but I also know that sometimes competition can bring out the worst in people. There are people that want to win at all costs, I can't stand being around that type of person or atmosphere. There are a lot more important things in life than "winning".

Very true - I've known and even now work with some people who will 'win' at any cost including cheating and hurting others along the way. That is NOT acceptable in my book.

I do think that I am somewhat a little bit of a competitive person. I used to think that I wasn't, but I realize that I actually am a little bit of a competitive person. It's not a quality that I enjoy having, but it's something that I can control fairly easily, in my opinion.

The more I think about it the more I think really I am and always have been a competitive person I just didn't own up to it... maybe ignorance is bliss and I would have been better off not knowing I am a competitive person.

I was competative academically when I was in college but that was probably the only time I have been. I think it's good that you've set this goal for yourself and I wish you a lot of luck climbing the leader boards.

Oh I didn't even think of academically - I've always been straight A's and got totally frustrated when I took medical terminology in college and couldn't get my A...
Really tired now but think I'm going to play around with which topic I want to achieve that top 10 on the leader board in.

:) I'm afraid you misunderstood the word is 'competitive' not 'competent' but I wish you the very best in becoming a competent man and thank you for responding. I suppose we could say you are competing to be competant.
