Anyone ever used 5 HTP and found it to help them sleep better?

5 HTP is a natural supplement (amino acid) that converts in the brain into Serotonin.
Serotonin is thought to affect mood, behavior, appetite and sleep. I have just started taking this supplement and wanted to hear from some others who have taken it what their experience was. Were you able to sleep better, did it affect your mood positively? Did you feel any side affects from it? What dosage did you take? I look forward to hearing your responses.

I think I tried it for Arthritis pain, or carpal tunnel symptoms, but never noticed any benefit. It did not hurt me in anyway, though, and there was not any negative side effect. All I can think is try it and see.

Hi GardenGerty,
Thanks for your comment. Good to know you didn't have any adverse affects from it.
I don't think it's touted as being a pain reliever per se, so not surprised it didn't help with your arthritis or carpal tunnel symptoms. Hope you have found something else that did work for those conditions, though.

I was having sleeping problems due to my supposed carpal tunnel symptoms. I see it is also recommended for weight loss, so that may have been why I took it. I did not notice any improvement, as I said, and spent more than I wanted to. What helps me with sleep and many other things is magnesium supplements. I also do not believe that I had carpal tunnel as it is completely gone now. I do know that I have three bad discs in my neck from arthritis, and that is what I think caused the carpal tunnel like symptoms.

So you have taken 5 HTP supplements? If so, how long and what dosage?
